We are going to talk about right now in true crime, and I have a new story for you guys. This one is breaking currently. But there is a guy named Samuel Haskell Junior. He is thirty five and on Wednesday he was arrested on suspicion of murder after they found a dismembered torso in a bag and a dumpster who it apparently is his wife. And his wife's parents are also still missing, So this is developing out of California. They all live together in a really expensive home two point five million dollars and they do have three kids together, but the three kids are safe. They were located safe at school. So this guy, his mom is a former missus Mississippi Miss Mississippi winner. And then his dad has represented people like George Clooney and Deli Parton and is a very powerful person in Hollywood. And so here's what happened. There was some construction workers that saw what they thought was a body in like a black trash bag outside near his home, so they call the cops, and when the cops got there, the body was gone. And then later there was a homeless man that found the torso in a dumpster and it turned out to be his wife. So there's two vehicles that are missing. He was at the parents are still missing. They were able to obviously trace it back to him because of some video evidence that they had, and also they went to the house and they discovered evidence of a crime. There was some blood and other items, and they didn't really say what those other items were. Neighbors say that he was definitely weird. He seemed off, and another neighbor said, something seemed so weird. I thought maybe he was sick or something was wrong. All I said was I kept saying to my family, something is wrong with him. And if you look at pictures of him, he looks, I don't know, he looks weird. He does. He looks weird, That's all I can say. He's like really really skinny, which there's nothing wrong with being really really skinny, but he's really really skinny, and he just he looks weird, like I don't even know, I don't know how to describe it. And then he apparently for his job. He worked as a videographer, director, and producer in la and according to his Twitter or x, I think that's what we're calling it now, he has worked as an editor for stars such as Machine Gun Kelly and he also randomly went by the name Samuel Bassinger and has directed photoshoots with different actresses. So interesting story will be developing. I haven't heard anything more on the parents being found, but I do expect that that's probably going to be next and he'll probably be charged with triple homicide and his rich dad is probably going to try to bail him out and get him off, and it'll probably happen unfortunately, but I will definitely keep you guys updated on that one. Moving on to Chad dabel he is saying that he shouldn't receive the death penalty because he is less culpable than his wife. Laurie didn't take him along at all with her under the bus, did it so? His attorney John Pryor wrote that Lourie set the conspiracy in motion, manipulated both Alex Cox and Chad Dabell, and remained in charge of her plan throughout. Laurie manipulated Chad through emotional and sexual control, and Chad was not going to act without Lourie saying so. And then he also said, per the state's own presentation of evidence and arguments in the trial of Lori Bellow, mister Dabell has lesser culpability than his co defendant, who did not face the death penalty, and that it's unconstitutional and unacceptable for one of them to receive the most extreme punishment available while the other does not. Jesus take the wheel, Like, can we just end this all, guys? I can't with these two, Like they're both crap, they're both the worst. They both did horrible, horrible things. They're both bad. Like lock them both up away forever, throw away the keys, and let's never ever ever talk about them again. One is not more responsible than the other. I feel like they both were horrible humans prior to meeting, or at least morphed into horrible humans at some point before they met. And then they met, and then it was just like a perfect storm of clashing horribleness that happened. And then they involved Alex, who was also probably not the best person to begin with. I don't know these all, all of these people are so easily manipulated by each other. It's not even funny. And yeah, I'm not obviously, I'm not like super pro death penalty. We know this for the most part. But I also do believe that some crimes are so horrific, like when you harm and torture children and then lie about it, that it should be on the table, could be on the table. And there's no reason for me to sit here and say that there's a chance that Chat is not guilty, because even innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. We've already sat through Laurie's trial. We know the bad things that they did. We know that they did this. We just have to go through their proper channels to convict and you know, get him officially sentenced and all of that. But I don't know, it's interesting. I really don't care what they do with him as long as he never sees the light of day again, because he is the biggest, most crappiest human on this earth. And his trial starts in April. I will be trying to do my best to cover it as best as I can. And yeah, it's gonna be a busy year next year. Between Daybill and Coburger, and god knows who else is gonna be on trial next year. It's gonna be a really busy year. But we are never too busy for justice, and that is number one most important. Also, speaking of Coburger, to day, Monday, November thirteenth marks one year since Kaylee, Maddie, Sanna, and Ethan were brutally murdered by the monster that is Brian Coberger allegedly, and I just wanted to take a minute to remember them and remember their families. Their families are all in the midst of massive grief, of course, and the one year anniversary coming up has to be so so hard, So I did want to take a minute to remember them, and let's always keep them at the forefront of everything that's going to happen in this next year in regards to their case, because it is the most important. They are the four people that lost their lives. Many people have been affected by this. The two surviving roommates also need all of our love and prayers because they have gone through something so so traumatic and it's going to continue, unfortunately, because the trial still has to happen. So I just wanted to take a minute to acknowledge that, and acknowledge them and all of the good that they did in their lives, even though they were young. They all did amazing things in their lives, and they had the most potential. And their families are grieving and their families are hurting, and this never should have happened. So Santa Ethan, Kaylie Maddie prayers to their families, and let's get this monster locked up for life, throw away the key, and never talk about him again because he is trash. So no more right now in True Crime, we were going to end it there and go ahead and start today's episode, all right, guys, jumping into a new case today that came up during another case that I covered recently, which was the abduction of Angela Hammond that happened in Missouri. It was the one that was featured on Unsolved Mysteries where she was calling her boyfriend from a payphone. Somebody came and took her and that was the last time she was seen. And there had been some debate over the years whether or not her abduction was also related to another abduction that was in the same area, and that is the story of Cheryl Anne Kenny, and it happened in Nevada, Missouri in nineteen ninety one. So we're going to talk a little bit about Cheryl, who she was, what she was doing leading up to her disappearance, and what's kind of been going on with the case. We'll talk about her disappearance and we'll talk about everything on the in between about her case. So we are going to jump right in and talk about Cheryl Ann Kenny. So, Cheryl and Kenny was thirty years old at the time of her disappearance. She was born on July eighth of nineteen sixty. She was married and had two children. At the time of her disappearance, she worked as a clerk at the Quality Convenience store, which was on Business seventy one Highway, and this abduction takes place in February of nineteen ninety one. So let me set the scene. The night that Cheryl went missing, she was working at the convenience store and her typical schedule was for her to work until midnight, but this particular night, business at the convenience store was pretty slow, so she decided to close the store early. She clocked out at ten o'clock PM and set the store alarm at ten seventeen PM, and after that she was never seen or heard from again. She never came home, and of course this was very out of character for her to just not come home. And then shortly after her white Chevy was found abandoned in the store parking lot, so there wasn't really a whole lot to go off of in regards to what maybe had happened to Cheryl. So there was a janitor that worked at the store that had left just a few minutes before Cheryl had decided to close up, and he said that there wasn't any customers parked in the parking lot at the time when he left, but he did say that there was a male customer who was inside the store and it was someone that he didn't recognize. And this convenience store was not far from a bunch of different hotels motels that were all within walking distance, so it wasn't out of the ordinary for people to have gone in there and not have a car. They were just walking because they were staying at the hotels. And it was also very common for random people to be in and out of that store all the time because there was so many different hotels in the area, and it's off a highway, so again very common for random people to be in there. So to this day, that customer still has not been identified to be questioned. It is unsure if he has anything to do with Cheryl's disappearance, if he is involved, because he has never been able to be identified to be questioned about her disappearance. So we do know for sure that she clocked out because she had a time card that she had to punch in and out, and she punched out a ten, and we know that she set the alarm, so there was no way that there was anyone inside of the store when she left, and it would have been against policy for her to let anyone inside after she had already closed the store. So whatever happened to Cheryl happened after she locked up, set the alarm, and when to leave the store. There were two witnesses that were in the area that night and they reported hearing a woman's scream right around the same time that Cheryl would have been going out to her car, And unfortunately, the witnesses didn't go to the police until several days later after they had read that somebody had disappeared from a local convenience store, and they put two and two together, so that is really the only clue that they had to go off of as far as what potentially could have happened to Cheryl. So, Cheryl had recently lost her mom, and the authorities thought that maybe Cheryl just decided to take off on her own because she was upset about her mother's death. But she only had about six dollars on her when she disappeared, at least according to the authorities, and it was very uncharacteristic of her to get up and leave. She would not have left her husband, definitely would not have left her kids. And she also had a father who was very ill, and she wouldn't have left him. So something nefarious definitely did happen to Cheryl, we just don't know exactly what it is. So in my Angie Angela Hammond episode, I talked about the potential that this case and the case of Trudy Darby were all connected because they all went missing from various stores in a similar area around the same timeframe. So we're going to talk about that a little bit and then we're going to go from there. So there was a serial killer named Kenneth Allen McDuff, and he obviously killed many, many, many people, and they thought that there might be some ties between him and Cheryl. He was responsible for a lot of murders in Texas and also a lot of the times his mo was to kidnap people from their place of employment as they were coming out of their place of employment closing up. So that's kind of why it stuck out to investigators that he might have been involved in Cheryles's disappearance. So, like I said, he had murdered quite a few women in Texas and he was on America's Most Wanted in nineteen ninety two, and a viewer contacted the police in Kansas City, Missouri and said that he was a coworker of this guy, and this guy went by the name Richard Fowler, and they had worked for a garbage collection company and they had learned that this guy had been previously arrested for soliciting prostitutes, and they were able to compare fingerprints and they matched mcduff's fingerprints, and therefore he was arrested. They did eventually put him to death and he was executed by lethal injection, and he did confess to a total of eight murders. However, authorities think that he was responsible for at least fourteen and they weren't ever able to to a one hundred percent tie him to Cheryl or to Angela Hammond's disappearance and murders, so he could have been involved. It's a potential that he was involved, but it's all very very alleged at this point. Nothing has ever been proven in regards to him, but he was a definite person of interest. He had been in the area, and he obviously was a serial killer, so there's always that possibility that he was involved in some way. There was also the case of Trudy Darby, which I previously talked about, and they thought all three of them were connected. Now, there was two half brothers named Jesse Rush and Marvin Cheney who were arrested in charge with Trudy's murder, and there were multiple people that Jesse Rush had confessed to in regard to Trudy's murder and they were both sentenced to life in prison. But they also said that he could these two brothers could have been involved in Cheryl and Angela's cases. Again, there's no definitive connection between the three, but it's a possibility. And there was a letter that was written to another inmate, and Jesse Rush said that he and his half brother had buried two other bodies, but they have yet to find those remains. So it could have been Angela, it could have been Cheryl. We really don't know. So in two thousand, there were some bones that were found that they thought potentially could belong to Cheryl, and they were found in a field, but they were later determined to be long to an unidentified male, so they were able to exclude them actually being Cheryl's bones at that point. So in my digging, I came across a few different things, and we're going to talk about the first thing I came across first, and then we're going to go into something else. So I found a website called webslus dot com, which is my love language. I didn't know that this existed, but now I'm going to like deep dive into it. So I found it through some of my Cheryl research. And there was a post about her. It gives like all of her, you know, her age, her height, her weight, a picture of her, and the circumstances of her disappearance. And then there was some comments that kind of went back and forth, and I'm just going to read them, so this was posted on November twenty eighth of twenty ten. According to Cheryl's son, who was ten at the time, she was being stalked and harassed by a law enforcement officer at the time of her disappearance. He was well known to have many girlfriends and was also married. She had just bought a car and she had the only key, and yet her strange husband drove the car away the next day. It was three days before the local police investigated her disappearance. Her car had a motorcycle helmet in the backseat, although none of her friends or family rode, and none had any idea where it came from. Two workers from a nearby factory heard screams at the approximate time of her disappearance, but thought it was coming from a nearby tavern. The MHP, which is Missouri Highway Patrol from what I figured out, has given so many conflicting stories about the remains found southeast of town that no one believes them anymore. The person who found the remains died in a suspicious suicide a few years later. The law enforcement officer who was stalking her was involved in the investigation of the remains, as well as her initial disappearance, so all the evidence is suspect. So that was posted, and then I scrolled down and on December third of twenty ten, it says the motorcycle helmet, the husband and his best friend both rode motorcycles, and the night of the disappearance, the husband rode the motorcycle to town to check on her. And the other person responded back, thanks for the correction, and then the one person replied, you're welcome an time you need more info, just get in contact with me. So somebody asked, are you a member? Are you a member of like Cheryl's family, and this person said, yes, I am the son of Cheryl. So I'm confused a little bit because I know Cheryl was married at the time. I don't know if this estranged husband was the man that she was married to at the time. Maybe they were going through a separation and they had the two kids. I'm really unsure of that because I didn't really see much about that until I pulled up this forum here. But there's definitely being attention brought to the fact that there was like a motorcycle helmet found in her car. I didn't see that anywhere else except for on this forum, and they did talk on here about the son of Cheryl said, you know, thank you so much for everybody for talking about my mom. And they were going to be planning a event in honor of Cheryl, which they did, so I'm going to now talk a little bit about that. So on the twentieth anniversary of Cheryl's disappearance, which was in twenty eleven, they did a tribute rally for her in the parking lot of a Nevada Auto Credit place and it was basically right next door to the convenience store where Cheryl was last seen. And they had a caravan follow this rally from Nevada to the Capital Steps in Jefferson City, and they were encouraging anyone who knew Cheryl to attend the rally, and they wanted to try to increase awareness and get the word out, keep Cheryl's story at the forefront because her family deserves answers and they want everyone to know that Cheryl has not been forgotten. And during the tribute rally, there was a representative from the city of Nevada that presented Cheryl's family with a acclamation declaring the day to be officially known as Cheryl Kenny Day. So that was really nice of the city to put that event on and to honor Cheryl and again try to keep her name out there so people don't forget her story, because her story is an important one to be told. I also found another forum that Cheryl's son was active on called sitcomsonline dot com. I'll link it in the show notes, and again her son posted about her story and that she was missing, and then someone responded, I'm glad to see that this is getting some attention, and he said, yeah, finally, after nineteen years, I was able to get her on the Missouri Missings Person's website and also got the local TV station to air the case again. There are just so many bricks, cops and investigators in my way to get this case looked at. The local law enforcement says that they will not even review this case, that they will only work on the leads that come in. So I am finally putting officers on the line that have screwed up, and I'm trying to make sure they pay for the things they said and the ways that they screwed this case up. If that doesn't infuriate you, I don't know what does like I don't. I hope I never have to understand and have to deal with the frustrations that some of these families of missing people, murdered individuals have to deal with, because it's so frustrating to sit on the other side of things and think that everyone in law enforcement is doing what they should be doing and doing it the right way. And I'm not saying there isn't good cops. There's good cops that do good things. There's good top cops that do bad things because they think they're doing it the right way but they're not. And then there's just bad cops in general, where they're skewing things and maybe covering things up and not realizing that they're covering it up or or just not doing things the right way. And that is stopping these families from getting justice for their family members. And it is not okay, like we should be mad about this. This should never happen. Her son goes on to say, the truth is Cheryl was thirty and not twenty. I was ten at the time. Not much new news leads have come in and have been investigated. The only thing I can really say is that the Missouri Highway Patrol Missing Persons Unit has been doing an excellent job at helping me with this case. It's amazing what one person can do if he puts his mind to it. It took now nineteen years to get this case going somewhere, and I finally got some recognition, got her some recognition that she deserves. I have to say, I would hate for anyone else to disappear from a small town like Navana, Missouri, because the cops there have a hard time trying to investigate things, or they say they just don't have the resources. But with a little push from someone above them, they may have started having to investigate some things for themselves. There's more comments about how law enforcement in Nova, Missouri is very poor. Five years ago, a close friend of mine was murdered here. The police left the crime scene open all night. By the time they went back, all the evidence was in a dumpster and unstable. The detective admitted to us that they screwed up. His cause of death was left as undetermined, and that has to be so frustrating. That is someone else who is commenting about somebody that they knew that was murdered in Nevada, Missouri. Now there was a skull that was found and somebody is inquiring about it, and this is her son's reply. There was a skull that was found that sat in an evidence room for a while while investigators were bouncing up and down saying it was her. After about six years, the skull went into the hands of the Highway Patrol and there it sat in an office. After DNA was taken from my sister and my dad. Here is the point in the newspaper that they stated that they took DNA from Cheryl's kids and were waiting for results. DNA was never taken for me. The first time it came back inconclusive, I fought with them to do another DNA test, and after an ass load of foe calls, I was threatened by the lead investigator, Miles Park from the Highway Patrol that they had spent enough money on the DNA testing and if I wanted another DNA test done that he would send me the bones in the mail and I could pay for it myself. What a jerk move, by the way. Well, the test finally came back about three years ago, and it came back and said that it was a male male remains. It was sent out for wax reconstruction, and they are ensure if the way that the construction was done, if it could possibly be a young boy or a female by the way that the reconstruction was done, and that part never made it into local newspapers and they just responded that it was really weird. So it's obvious that Cherylson thinks that there is some underhanded shanana agains going on and rightfully shoots rightfully. So there's definitely underhanded shananigans going on in this whole thing. It just doesn't jive now. The last article that I found in regards to this case was from twenty sixteen, and it was the twenty five year anniversary of Cheryl disappearing, and there is a new sergeant on the case named Jeff Baker, who said that over the years, thousands of hours have been spent on dozens, if not hundreds of interviews, they went to several different leads that they've got, and nothing has ever really come about. And he in particular, had been looking into the case for about five years and said the sheer lack of clues is very frustrating, and he said, quote, there was no evidence to even be found at the location she was reported missing. I mean there was no struggle known to sign of a break in, nothing missing from the store. I mean, it was just like she vanished. End quote. And the Nevada Police chief, who at the time, I don't know if it's still current, named Graham Brumley, said that it's been a major emphasis for his department since he took over in twenty eleven and said it was time for us to take a look and see if we could come up with something fresh. And he said he believes that someone out there knows what happened to Cheryl or has information that could help them finally provide answers and get closure for her family and the community. And also said, I really want to have some sort of information if we can have this community help us with this. It's so important for us to get some input from someone who knows something about the case and give us a direction on where to go. And that was Chief Brimley that said that. And he also ended the article and interview by saying, they want some closure on this, as we want to provide that to them. My police want the same closure. There's nobody in the world that wants to see a resolution to this case more than we end quote. And I think that if there is any hope of solving this, it's going to be again somebody coming forward and saying that they know something, either personally they did something and they know something, or they know somebody that did something and has said something over the years. Obviously, you don't just wake up one day and decide to go abduct a woman from their place of employment. This has probably been a pattern for this person. There very well could be some connection between this one and Angie. It could be related to the serial killer that was in Texas. We just don't know, and that's going to be the most frustrating part. But then there's also everything initially and the way it was handled or not handled appropriately, and that's going to be one of the most frustrating things for the family because a case like this is so important when in the beginning things are handled properly and the right routes are taken and things are done the way they should be. And it doesn't sound like that happened in this case, and a lot of times it's just lack of resources and experience. It could be a cover up. I'm not saying that, but there's always a potential for there being some type of inside cover up that's happening. Not saying that's the case, but in some of these older cases, you have to kind of entertain that thought because it's a very big possibility that that's something that happened. I've talked about it with other cases, and it's potential, and especially with some of the things her son is saying, it just leads me to believe that there is more than meets the eye, more than has been let out into the public. I'm sure he knows more than any of us know about this case, and it sounds like he's really advocating and trying to keep his mom's name out there. And I think that's so important because if people like that don't exist and they don't speak up and keep these stories at the forefront, they do came these unforgotten cold cases that we talk about every twenty five years, we talk about on the thirtieth anniversary of their disappearance, and I don't think anyone should go missing for that long. So I am going to post pictures of Cheryl, And like I said, around the time that she disappeared, she was about thirty years old. She was between five six and five seven, one hundred and seventeen to one hundred pounds Caucasian female with light brown hair, although it looks more blonde to me, green eyes, and it said that her hair was bleach blonde at the tips at the time of her disappearance. She had several mole removal scars on her chest and her upper arm. She has a scar on her right wrist, and she wears eyeglasses with tan frames, and she has a unique tooth pattern, and she was a beautiful woman. She had the amazing fairy faucet hair and like I said, her hair is more blonde to me in the picture. But I'm going to post the pictures. I'm going to post all of the information that I can, the location of where she was abducted from on my Instagram and facebooks. And I always say this, but this is another example of me just saying share this episode, especially if you're in Missouri, because I feel like with the Internet, we have so much potential to do so much good, especially in some of these really really cold cases. In a place like Missouri, where the town that this happened in Nevada, Missouri very small. You could share this episode with somebody that you know that lives in Missouri, or it lives anywhere for that matter, and it sparks something in them and they remember something that happened right after Cheryl was abducted, and they're able to put the pieces together. That's how these cases are being solved, with people remembering things or somebody finally realizing, oh my god, I have information in regards to such and such case. That is how it's happening. I think it is really cool that the second I had published on one of my episodes, it is out there. It goes out to everybody anywhere. You can search at any time. If you have a family member who's missing, or a family member who has an unsolved murder, you type that into Apple Podcasts or Spotify and a bunch of stuff comes up. And I think that's really cool that I have this amazing platform within this true crime podcast community where I'm able to share these stories and get this information out there. Like I said, three people listen to my podcast. I'm happy I do have more than three listeners, But if three people listen, it's three more people that are learning about these stories then had heard about them before. I've had people come message me about different stories and you know, different homicides that just really hit home with them. And I've had family members of the murdered and the missing reach out, and that to me just really makes me realize how important it is if I never ever, ever help solve one of these cold cases. I am aokay with that, but it's just knowing that I have the power to put it out there that somebody might hear something that sparks something in their brain or that they're motivated to think, you know what, Maybe I have been holding this in for fifty five years and I need to just say what I know. You just never know. And it's happening all the time where these different cases are gaining traction because of social media, they're getting traction because of podcasters, and I just want to do my little part in this true crime podcast community to be that light and be that person and speak about it.
