Dale Williams

March twenty fifth, two thousand and four, Cross Plains, Tennessee their last day question Mark. Jennifer Just, twenty one, stands in the kitchen of her boyfriend Joey Benton's family home, where she and her two year old daughter, Adriana Wicks have been living. She has the only phone in the home in her hand and is on a call with her father. Jennifer expresses how the night before, she and her boyfriend's parents, Joe and Cindy Benton, had been involved in a very heated argument. In fact, it was so heated that Jennifer was still rattled from the night before. She moves the. Receiver down to talk to a muffled female voice coming from behind her. Let's talk right now in true Crime, and then together we are going to work on warming up some cold cases. Let's go. Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Primetime Crime. It's Kylie. I do want to do a little bit of housekeeping in this first part of Right Now in True Crime. It was brought to my attention that, for some reason. Of my episodes on Spotify seem to be a little lower on the sound quality or volume, so to say. I do not know why. On my end, I really don't notice a ton of difference, but I did turn the volume on my mic up, and I'm trying to speak a little louder, be a little bit closer. To the mic. I don't know if when I translate the file to upload it, if somehow it's decreasing the quality. I am not a tech savvy human. I'm just not, so I'm trying to become that. So I hope that this intro sounds a little bit better. The episode that. I am releasing today I did record previously, so if the sound quality isn't the greatest, I do apologize. But my episode that is coming out on Thursday night for Friday should be hopefully a little bit better because I am trying to be a little closer to my mic. Like I said, I turned my mic up. So thank you for your patience and sticking with me through all of the trials and tribulations of the podcasting life. So we are going to go ahead and jump in to right now and True Crime. We have a few things that I definitely want to talk about. First things first, my good friends Jewels and Jen have started their second season of their podcast True Crime. In headlines, I do suggest you go check it out. Jen is taking the lead on the first few episodes because Jewels is finishing wrapping up her full length investigative podcast called Missing in Hush Town, where she is going to be discussing the disappearance of mother and daughter Jennifer Wicks out of Tennessee in two thousand and four. I am so proud of Jewels for taking on this beast of a story all by her lonesome, all by herself, and it will be releasing on August sixteenth, so you guys be sure to go check those two podcasts out. I am super proud of both Jewels and Jen for continuing the pursuit and continuing the fight to justice. All right, let's move into right now. In true crime, so Chad Doerman, who is the dad of the three boys who basically execution style murdered his three sons outside of their Ohio home. He took a plea deal, basically meaning he said that he did do what he was accused of and he is going to get life in prison and they have excluded the death penalty. This was one where I definitely feel like he was having some type of mental health crisis at the time, but the details and the circumstances surrounding the death of his three sons. Are awful, horrific, horrible. Nothing that anyone should ever have to live through and experience. So his poor kids, the rest of his family, I cannot even imagine the horror that they felt that day going through that. Next case update I want to talk about Christopher Gregor was sentenced to twenty five years in prison, and he is the dad who forced his poor child, Corey, to run on a treadmill, literally until this child was falling off of a treadmill, and he would just pick him back up, put him back on, pick him back up, put him back on, and Corey ended up dying from the injuries that. He received that day. So Christopher was sentenced, like I said, to twenty five years in prison. And Corey was only six years old, and it was obvious that this pattern of abuse had probably been happening for a long time. Corey was just an innocent six year old kid, and hearing his mom get up on the stand and talk about everything very emotional, very powerful. I wish that he would have. Been given his maximum sentence, but at the end of the day, I'm happy with twenty five five years. Okay, moving on to the Amber Spradlin case. I had talked about on the previous episode that they arrested three in connection with her murder, and I also want to report that Michael McKinney, who is the father of the murder suspect, was you know, he was also arrested. He as of right now, has had his dental license suspended, which I felt like was coming because as he is going through the court processes, there's no way that he's going to be able to work as a licensed dentist. And even though he is technically out currently on bond, there's no way that he is going to be able to keep up with his dental practice. So his dental license was suspended, and we are working our way through the justice system with these three. So next court appearance is in October. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on that. If you do want to follow along with this story for any reason because it's so interesting. Now in True Crime, and we are going to go ahead and get started with today's episode. Again. Thank you, guys, and I hope you enjoy this episode. Okay, guys, today we are jumping into a brand new unsolved missing person's case. Today we are going to be covering the story of Dale Williams. Dale's story is one that was covered on Unsolved Mysteries. I know that I saw it back in the day, but until Crime Con of twenty twenty three, it had been a long time since I had heard the name Dale Williams, and it had been a long time since I had looked into the case. So at Crime Con they always have this really neat, big like corkboard and people can put up their missing loved ones or unsolved homicides of their loved ones more just to spread awareness. I share this board all the time on my social media. I think it is a great thing that crime con does well. One of the missing person's flyers that was up on the board in Orlando in twenty twenty three was Dale Williams, and it led me to kind of dig back into the case. It has been one of the ones that I have wanted to cover for a while, and I finally have kind of done the research and dug back in, and that is the case that we're going to be covering today. So Dale Williams was born on July fifteenth of nineteen fifty six and his wife Diana, lived in Colorado and together they had two teenage daughters. Dale was forty two years old at the time of his disappearance. He owned and operated an autobody shop in the town of Nukla, Colorado. So Nukla is very much described as a small town where everybody knows everybody, and Dale was described as the type of person that would give you the shirt off of his back, and he was described as a hardworking man, a supportive husband, and a great father to his two daughters. So we are on May twenty seventh of nineteen ninety nine, when everything changed for the Williams family. Dale was working at his shop working on a car, and he had a friend that had stopped in with his young son. Now this friend was pastor Tom. Ross, and he had stopped by and Dale said, I'm really really busy, but let's play a quick of darts. So him and Tom and Tom's young son played this game of darts. In the midst of this game, Dale had received a phone call from somebody that said that they were broken down and they needed a jump. So this person said that they were near the Bedrock Colorado store, which was in Paradox, Colorado. Now, from Nukla to Paradox, it's about a thirty eight minute drive, so Dale very quickly rushed off, and this was the last time that Tom Ross saw his friend Dale, and Tom said that he felt that the call was a little bit odd because Dale did autobody repair. He wasn't necessarily a mechanic, and it wasn't common for him to get roadside assistance calls. But Dale was that person that. Was willing to help anybody that needed his help, So he jumped to it and went off to try to help this person. So from there, Dale got in his white F two fifty pickup truck and drove off. So this is about twelve o'clock that all of this transpires. So Dale didn't show back up for dinner that night, and Diana very much just thought that he had lost track of time, and by the evening time, he still hadn't come home, and this is when she started to grow concerned. She ended up calling up to the shop several times, leaving messages trying to get a hold of Dale, but there was no answer, and she very much tried to rationalize what was going on in her head, thinking he's working, it's loud in there, and that is why he didn't answer the phone. He didn't hear it. She ended up going to bed that night around ten pm, but very much had a feeling that something was wrong. She tossed and turned all night long. And then the next morning when she woke up, Dale still hadn't returned home. So she knew in her heart of hearts that something was wrong. This was very unlike Dale to not be in a communication with his family, so she woke up, got the kids off to school, and then she went to the shop. She walked in, the door was unlocked. There was a van that Dale had been working on previously, and the hood was up, tools were kind of just laying around. She said, it literally looked like he had just stepped away for a few minutes, like he was taking a break. So from there she went to Dale's mom's house, and Dale's mom is named Ida Williams, and Ida said that she hadn't heard from Dale the day before or that morning, so they decided that they were going to go searching for Dale. They thought that maybe he had gone to some scrap yards to pick up some car parts. This was very common practice for. Dale, and they thought maybe he got into an accident on the way or he drove off the road, and they were convinced that they were going to find him. They thought that something was wrong, but they thought that they were going to find him, so they went off certain for him and nothing turned up, unfortunately, So from there, Diana reported him missing to the police. So investigators are very much trying to piece things together, and that is when Tom Ross comes forward and talks about what happened that day, and then a family friend comes forward and said that Dale had stopped by her office. Now she was a. Family friend who had a vehicle that had some windshield damage that needed repaired and she had been in contact with Dale about doing it, and on his way to Paradox to help this stranded motorist, he stopped by her office and was just like, hey, I'm not going to be able to fix it until next week, and you know, she said that was fine. She said she was kind of surprised that he stopped by because he could have just called and told her. But regardless, he stopped by and told her that he wasn't going to be able to fix it until next week, and then he drove off and that was the last time that she saw him. Now, she did say that he was in a bit of a rush. He stopped by the office around twelve fifteen, and she said she wasn't sure if he felt uneasy about who who was going to tow or going to meet. But she said, regardless, that was the last time I saw Dale Williams. So Dale's family from here started to make missing persons flyers and they were posting them around town and Diana would always put them up in the post office and she would go back a couple days later and they would be gone. So she shared with investigators this that was happening, because it is not okay to take down a missing person's flyer, especially in a public place. So police ended up putting a secret camera and they wanted to try to capture and figure out who this person was. So they did that and they found that it was a former friend of Dale and Diana. Now this friend, he does not have an identity that I could find, but we're just gonna call him John. So John was a previous friend of Dale and Diana. John and his ex wife were good friends with Dale and Diana, but they had had a falling out a year earlier because Dale and Diana had helped John's wife move out of state, essentially to escape the marriage. I don't know if there was abuse happening. I don't know the dynamics of why the ex wife wanted to escape the marriage, but regardless, Dale and Diana helped kind of orchestrate this and helped her move and John was upset about this, and was even more upset when Dale wouldn't share with John where the. Wife had gone to. Basically, Dale and Diana were just being good friends to this woman and trying to help her in a situation where either she felt unsafe or she wanted to get out of the situation. So shortly after that, Dale's autobody shop was burglarized and he found a photo of the four of them in happier times ripped up and just kind of scattered outside of the autobody shop. And with this picture that had been ripped up, there was also several twenty two caliber rounds that were scattered alongside the picture. Now, around the same time, Diana managed a video store and there was a nighttime drop box that people could come by and drop off their videos. It is crazy to me that. Nineteen ninety nine feels like five years ago to me, and it was such a long time ago and we were still doing video drop boxes. It really brings me back. Side note. So, anyways, Diana had found somebody had dropped a twenty two caliber rifle in a video drop box, and it was discovered that this gun had also so been stolen from Dale's autobody shop. So whoever stole the picture and. The gun and the bullets, it was all the same person. And it's just a little coincidental in my opinion, that it was a photo of this previously married, happy couple Dale and Diana. Dale and Diana had helped this woman move away from her husband, and now this is happening, and this same guy is tearing down Dale's missing person's flyers in the post office to coincidental For me, I do not believe in coincidences that much. So police are able to track down John and he denies any involvement in Dale's disappearance, and he also provides an alibi for May twenty seventh of nineteen ninety nine, which was allegedly consistent and confirmed. However, I don't know the exact. Details of this, and I feel like this person needs to be revisited. That is just my opinion. So around six weeks go by and still nobody has heard from Dale. There is no new leads. And then on July fourth of nineteen ninety nine, there is a family that is swimming in Montrose County in a river and they discover a white pickup truck in the water. The authorities end up getting contacted and they lift the truck from the water. There is no sign of Dale, and diving teams of course come in and Dale is nowhere to be found. There is no evidence that is left behind that may give any clues. To as to where Dale is. The truck ends up being analyzed, and the truck's ignition was turned on and the truck was in gear, meaning that somebody, whoever it was, had deliberately steered the truck into the water. Diana was able to view photos of the truck and notice that the driver side window was down a little bit partially down, and she said this was extremely odd to her because Dale always drove with the window fully down, which. Led her to believe. That whoever was in the truck last was in Dale and that they intentionally drove it into the. Water to try to hide the truck. Even more mysteriously, investigators have never been able to locate the mystery caller that initially called for help and needed roadside assistance. Now, Tom Ross said initially when this person called Dale at the shop that Tom was kind of under the impression that it was a woman, but he can not really confirm or deny. That that is true. And like I said, they've never been able to track this person down and this person has never come forward. Investigators did say that they were able to determine that the call was placed from a stolen cell phone. Now here's where things get a little interesting. So some people do claim that they saw Dale's truck park back at the autobody shop by one thirty the afternoon that he disappeared, meaning that within an hour and a half of him getting this call, he drove all the way to Paradox, rescued this person, and then drove himself back and was back at the autobody shop. There's also people that said that they spotted Dale at a grocery store in a neighboring town, allegedly between five and six pm, which again isn't really consistent with him disappearing earlier in the day. So unfortunately, this one has more questions than answers, which I feel like this one is so solvable. I feel like there needs to be fresh eyes on this case. I feel like we need to question all of the people that were previously questioned. I feel like this quote unquote ex friend who I'm calling John that is not his name, or maybe it is, I don't know, that person needs to be requestioned and everything just needs a fresh look because there is definitely something going on in this case where I feel like Dale Won is potentially set up, and because he was such a nice guy, he was a very helpful guy. He unfortunately took the bait and ended up being in a situation where someone, for whatever reason wanted to cause harm to him. Whether they were upset about something or Dale knew too much and was going to go to police about something, I really don't know. Now. There is a Facebook page for Dale that I know. Is run at least by one of his daughters, and that is missing Dale Williams. I will be sure to link it in the show notes. But I do think that the town of Nukla is holding onto secrets in regards to Dale's disappearance, because, as I always say, somebody out there knows something, even if they don't realize that they have a key piece of information that could help solve the case. Somebody knows something, and unfortunately, small towns do tend to keep secrets like this. If there is something that happened to Dale that day, somebody is keeping it quiet, and they're doing it to protect themselves or they're doing it to protect others. And eventually we have to start talking. These towns have to stop protecting the people that live inside of them and say what they know, because this family has gone so many years without having answers as to. Even if Dale is alive or not. They don't know. Anything about his whereabouts, if he is okay, if he was. Murdered that day, They don't know. And I hope that nobody ever has to experience a missing person in their family. But I have to imagine that the worst part about it is not knowing and having. That uncertainty and that uneasy feeling of are they okay? Are they not? Are they alive? Are they not? Are they in harm's way? Are they not? It has to be so debilitating day in and day out just to not know the answers. I do want to read a post. I'm going to actually read a couple of posts that were from the Facebook page. This one was posted in April of twenty eighteen. Please share this post. Nineteen years is coming up soon. Somewhere someone knew something that could help solve our father's case. Do the right thing. It's likely that the people who know things watched me and my sister grow up, grew up with us, or had a hand in helping raise us. Nuclea is a very small community. Do the right thing. We deserve to know what happened to our dad. We deserve to be able to put the case to rest. Wouldn't you want those answers? Wouldn't you want those answers for your kids? Someone knows. Keep our dad's case in the media, Keep talking, keep the rumors going. Talking about it is the only way we'll get any answers. Do the right thing, Call the CBI anonymous. If you're scared, Just keep talking. There have been. Different sets of skeletormins found over the years, and none of them have come back to belonging to Dale. In October of twenty twenty three, the CBI and Mantrose County ended up swabbing the truck for DNA, and they're hoping with the advancements in the forensic technology that there will be some type of evidence that comes from this. I also came across a article again. It is from October of twenty twenty three, and I'm just going to read it and then we'll talk about it. Acting on a tip, the Mantras County Sheriff's Office in Colorado Bureau of Investigation secured a warrant and searched a property in Nuclea over the course of three days. Late last week, the Mantras County Sheriff's Office in CBI are working in tandem to solve a missing person's case that originated in nineteen ninety nine. Sheriff Jean Lillard said Monday, October twenty third, the only missing person's case from Nukla at that time was that of Dale Williams, and Lillard confirmed that the search was related to that case. On October eighteenth, the agencies came to the nuclear residents on a tip that a body might be buried on the property. They obtained a search warrant on October nineteenth and October twentieth and twenty first search the home and the garage there. Lillard said he cannot at this time disclosed what if anything was found because of where the investigation is at this time. It then talked about Dale's disappearance and where he was last seen. So I really do wonder if this tip that was brought in and them swabbing Dale's truck for the DNA evidence are correlated. There have not been any updates since, but I'm hopeful that maybe something will come of this because I do feel like it's a lead and it's a step in the right direction, and as of right now, that is where the case stands today. There is no new information in Dale's case, but I do have a feeling that twenty twenty four is going to be the year that we hopefully get a break in this case. And all in all, I. Feel like, like I always say, sharing this episode, getting the attention on this case, getting more eyes, more ears on this case is the way to help disperse it and spread it out. Now Crime Con twenty twenty five is going to be in Denver, and I really hope that the Williams girls are going to be there to be. Sharing their dad's story. I feel like, especially amongst people that live in Colorado, this case is important to share because you could know something and not even realize that you know it. You could have seen something and not even realized that you saw it. And there is no telling how many more people we can reach by talking about Dale's story, sharing his story, and getting his name and his face out there, because somebody does know something, and if the town is not talking, we need to put pressure on them to talk and say what they know. Somebody in the town of Nuclea knows something. When Dale disappeared, he was one hundred and seventy pounds, five seven in height, He had blue eyes, and his hair was brown with a little bit of gray in it. Dale has been officially missing for twenty five years, and if Dale is still alive today, he would be sixty seven years old, which is such a drastic difference from forty two years old. When you really think about that timeframe, it just goes to show you how long this poor family has gone without answers. Dale's daughter, the one that I saw do an interview, does believe that her dad was murdered and that his remains are in a mind somewhere, which in Colorado they are so many there are so many mines, so he literally could be anywhere. And until the person that harmed Dale comes forward and shares what they know, I think that we're going to just kind of be going around in this revolving door of trying to figure out what happened to Dale. But hopefully with the more attention this case gets, that person will eventually grow a conscious and come forward and state what they know about Dale's disappearance. That is run by Dale's family, and at the end of the day, what we really need to do is all come together and share this episode, share Dale's story, and try to bring resolution to Dale's family because they so desperately need it after twenty five years.
