Hey, guys, welcome to Primetime Crime. It's Kylie. We are going to go ahead and get into a little right now in true crime. We have missed a lot since I was off for a week for Christmas, so we are going to go ahead and get into it. Unfortunately, I do have an update in the Melody Buzzard missing child case. Her remains were discovered on December sixth in Wayne County, Utah, and they did positively identify the remains of belonging to Melody Buzzard. It is being said that she died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and they do believe that she was killed on October ninth during a multiple day road trip that she took with her mom. Now, we talked about Melody on the podcast before her mom, Ashley was going through quite a bit of mental health struggles, and it was suspected that something had transpired where either she was concerned about Melody's well being and had given her to someone else, or that she possibly could have been involved in something more nefarious. And it is coming out now that they do believe that Ashley is the one responsible for taking Melody's life. They have arrested Ashley and charged her with first degree murder in connection with Melody's death. Melody was only nine years old, and this whole thing is just so sad and tragic. Given what we know about Ashley's mental health and all of the issues that she's had with it, It's really awful that everything transpired the way it has, and now we're dealing with the fact that Melody was brutally murdered by her own mother. I will continue to keep you guys updated on this one as more comes out, as court dates are happening and everything, But overall, this is a really sad and tragic ending for a case that I was semi hopeful that Melody would be found safe somewhere, and this is just a really sad and tragic ending to something that never should have happened. Now with that tragic news. I have to follow it up with some good news. So there was a young girl, thirteen year old Winter Wagner, who went missing on October fourteenth out of Kentucky. She was found safe. In an interview with Elix eighteen, the Chief of Patrol of the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland, confirmed that she was in fact kidnapped, and the suspect has been identified as a thirty seven year old male named Christian Delgado. Police and Maryland were dispatched to his home that is located on Dalewood Drive just before six pm on December twenty sixth. They had received a tip that Winter might be in Montgomery County, Maryland, and that is exactly where she was. They found her inside of the residence with this guy who kidnapped her, Christian Delgado. He was arrested and Winter was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. Winter's father, who is named Dustin, released a statement and it is us follows Winter has been found. She is safe, and that's about all the information we can give at this time. It's very very new. It just happens, so the details are not clear at the moment. I don't want to give any information, and I hope you understand. I do also want to say thank you for all the efforts in trying to find my daughter and all the prayers for her safety. We do truly appreciate it and are so thankful that she is okay. And this is best case scenario. She is safe alive. This horrible person that allegedly kidnapped her is behind bars and hopefully we'll be facing charges. This is the best case scenario in a case like this, And this is why sharing these people who are missing spaces are so important, because it just takes one person, one tip to come in to change the course of an investigation. And best case scenario is fine, whoever's missing alive and well. And that's what happened here. So I'll keep you guys updated on this one because this is good news and in a world of true crime and bad news, we really need the good news right now. In Brian Walsh news, he was sentenced to life in prison, which is exactly what I thought was going to happen. I didn't think that he was going to see the light of day again for the murder of his wife. On a Walsh a really sad and tragic case all around, something I don't ever think should have happened. And they still don't have a pot location for Anna's remains, which I think is the most tragic of all given the fact that she was taken in such a heinous way. Her family hasn't even had the opportunity to lay her to rest in the way that I'm sure that they want to. So I don't know if Brian is ever going to fess up and tell us where he put her and what he did with her, but I think if there was a sliver of any decency in him, he would at least do that after everything else that has transpired. But I'll keep you updated if I do hear anything, but as of right now, life in prison. He will never see the light of day again. All right. Last thing I want to talk about is they are saying that singer David will likely face murder charges for the death of Celeste Revus Hernandez. We have gone over this. The grand jury is currently hearing the case and is expected to vote on indictment. The prosecutor, who is named Beth Silverman, and other authorities do believe that David was involved in her death. So this is the perfect example of it not being a slam dunk, and you have to get your ducks in a row before you attempt to bring charges because the end goal is getting a conviction. So if you don't have enough evidence to take that person to trial, then you have to work until you are able to get enough evidence, which I do believe that they have at this point in time. But I will keep you guys updated. I am recording this on New Year's Eve, trying to get all of this right now in true crime stuff done, but I will be sure to keep you updated. On all that is going on. There is a lot going on right now in the true crime world, so I'm going to do my best to stay on top of it. We have a lot of trials. Coming up in twenty twenty six. I'm going to try to stay on top of those as well. I will bring you all of the right now in True Crime at the start of every episode in twenty twenty six. I hope you guys have a good one, and let's go ahead and get into today's episode. Alrighty, guys, Today we are getting into a brand new unsolved case. On today's episode. I'm going to be sharing about the nineteen ninety nine unsolved abduction and homicide of eighteen year old Elaine Nicks out of Gainesville, Georgia. As always, we've got to go back to where it all started to find out how we got where we're at now. So let's go ahead and get into a Lane story. I also do want to shout out the Gainesville Times, which did a podcast covering a Lane story called Taken Too Soon. I'll be honest, I did all of. My research on this case and wrote everything out before I found the podcast. But since then, I've spent the last week listening to the series, and I think it really gives you a good insight into who Elaine was. You hear from her friends and her family, and I do suggest that you give it a listen if you want to know more about Elaine. I'm going to also link up below on the show. Jacqueline Elaine Nix was born on December seventeenth of nineteen eighty to her parents, Becky and David Nicks, in Gainesville, Georgia. She had an older brother who was named David Nicks Junior. Elaine was raised in Hall County, Georgia, and was described by her friends and family as fun, happy, energetic, and eager for the possibilities that her future held. She attended East Hall High School. She loved frogs and even had a frog tattoo. She was a tiny girl, but described as mighty full of personality. She stood just about five two and one hundred pounds. She had light blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. Now, Elaine had dropped out of high school, but she did have dreams and wishes of becoming a nurse. She was trying to get her life back on track and had taken a job as a hostess at the Up the Creek restaurant nearby. She also had decided right before her day to rededicate her life to the Lord. This was a decision that she made at the Sunday church service shortly before she went missing. So it's obvious in all of this that Elaine was very much making plans for her future and trying to get her life on track. Unfortunately, everything would change on Monday, September twentieth of nineteen ninety nine. So on this particular day, Elaine hadn't been feeling well, and she actually spent most of the day in bed until she eventually got up and decided to help her mom, Becky, cook dinner. So Elaine had been dating an eighteen year old named Billy Millwood. Now, this relationship was described as being a very much off and on type of relationship. They fought often, and on this particular night, Monday, September twentieth of nineteen ninety nine, Billy had paged Elaine a not so nice message and essentially it was decoded as if U be I think we all can understand what that means. This obviously upset Elaine, so off she went in her nineteen eighty six Toyota Celica. She was dressed in a white tshirt, khaki pants, and blue and white gym shoes. She headed from her home in Gainesville to nearby Zach's Food Rack located at twenty fifty two Candler Road in Gainesville, Georgia. This was only about two and a half miles from her home. Now, the reason that she went to a Zach's Food Rack it was to use their pay phone to call Billy. So Elaine had gotten in trouble previously because she was calling Billy from her home phone and Billy lived about thirty miles away from Elane, so his number was actually considered a long distance and there was a time when Elaine had run up the phone bill to seventy five dollars calling Billy, so her parents essentially forbid her from calling him from her home phone, so she would often go to the payphone just down the street at Zach's Food Rack, and she could have a hour long conversation with Billy for only thirty five cents, So naturally that is what she did. So Zach's was a convenience store. It was located on a street that was pretty desolate. Across the street from the store was a set of railroad tracks and all of that was surrounded by woods, and the store behind it was surrounded by woods as well. It was off of a pretty quiet road where not much happened. The parking lot was. Gravel, and that night, by the time Elaine got there, the store was already closed for the evening. Elaine arrived there around eleven PM, and although we don't know exact context of what was discussed, it's assumed that they did figure out whatever differences they were having, because Billy said that they talked mostly about a camping trip that was up and coming, and they had just a normal conversation and they talked for about an hour. She told him that she loved him and ended up hanging up. So this puts Eline as getting off of the phone with Billy around midnight. Around two am, a police officer drove by Zach's food rack and saw Elane's. Car in the lot. The windows were rolled down, her keys were still in the ignition, and when this police officer touched the hood, he said it was still warm. He didn't really think much of this and decided to go on his way to continue his nightly patrol. I guess there was nothing that really stood out to him as being out of the ordinary or suspicious. Maybe he thought that she broke down and just was walking to get help. I'm not really sure. It was nineteen ninety nine, things are a lot different. Cell phones didn't exist. I don't know what went through his head, but either way, like I said, he basically just went on his way. So there wasn't really immediate alarm bells that went off for Elaine's family because she was eighteen years old and sometimes she would spend the night at a friend's house or she would drive to see Billy, so her coming home wasn't super out of the ordinary. But the next morning, Elaine missed her shift at the restaurant where she worked, and this was very out of character for Elaine. It was not like her to do this. Her parents grew concerned and went out looking for her, and in that they spotted her car in the parking lot at Zach's Food Wrack, exactly where she had been the night before. Becky noticed that the windows of the car were still rolled down. Becky decided that she was going to get into the car and saw that the keys were in the dnission. She turned it on, thinking maybe Elaine. Was having issues with her car and she couldn't get it to start and that's why she wasn't with her car. But when she turned it on, she realized that it turned on with no problem, So the car obviously didn't have any issues. It wasn't out of gas, So where was Elaine and what happened? Becky also noticed that Elaine's purse and cigarettes were in the car as well. Becky decided to go into the food mart and ask the clerk how long the car had been there. The clerk said that the car was there ever since she had came into work that morning. So at this point, Becky. Doesn't really know what's going on, but she decided to drive Elaine's car home. Now, obviously hindsight is twenty twenty. Becky has no idea what is about to happen in her life. She has no idea that her daughter has been taken, that her daughter will be found murdered. But as she's driving the car home, she just has a sinking feeling that something isn't right, call it mother's intuition, whatever it may be. So when Elaine's parents get home, they so aheadn't put a phone call into Billy to ask him if he had any information about where Elaine could have gone. They also called the police department and reported Elaine missing. And they went ahead and took it upon themselves to make a hand written missing person's flyer. Now, I have a photo of this missing person's flyer that I am going to be posting onto my social media, but I do want to read it for you because it is handwritten and it just absolutely breaks my heart. It says missing from Zach's on Kandler Road, Highway sixty was where she was last talking on the phone. If you have any information, please call the Hall County Sheriff's apartment or and then it lists a phone number. I assume it's probably. Their phone number. She disappeared at midnight on Monday, September twentieth. Please send my baby back alive and safe. And then there's two photos of Elane on the poster. I'm going to post this poster on social media because it just shows how desperate they were to figure out what happened to their daughter. And everything transpired so quick from Becky and David going to Zach's, finding the car, deciding to drive the car home, to realizing that something is seriously wrong and Elaine is not here. Something's wrong, this isn't like her, and. Them deciding that they need to file a missing person's which we'll get to in a minute, and then them making these posters to hang up. So they make the posters and they decide that they want to hang a few up at Zach's because that is the last place she was seen. So if anybody saw her, it's probably somebody that frequents that area. So Elaine's dad said, pretty much as quickly as they put the flyers up, they were ripped down by somebody. We do not know who did that. At first, when they went to the police, they very much treated Elaine's disappearance as a runaway type of situation because there had been a time or two previously that Elaine had left on her own to stay with a friend and decided not to check in. And this is where I get very frustrated, because it's obvious that Elaine's family was worried, and if it's cause enough for them to be concerned and bring their concerns to the police department, they need to be taken seriously. Best case scenario, law enforcement uses all of their resources and they find Elaine and she's safe and she's okay. But they can't just sit back and expect that this eighteen year old girl who might be in harm's way is just going to show up because she went off to blow off some steam or stay with a friend, or whatever the case may be. That's the best case scenario that that's where she is. But what if it's not that, What if something happened to her? And we know the first forty eight hours of an investigation like this are the most critical. So Elaine's parents were told that a person had to be missing for a certain amount of time before the missing person's report could be filed. But the officer that they. Spoke with said that he was going to do them a favor and he was going to go ahead and file the missing persons anyway, and even gave them a case number. But years down the road, news organizations tried to find that report that there was a missing person's report on Alane, and they were unable to prove that one ever existed, which I don't even have words like. First of all, that's highly illegal for a police department to give you a case number to a case that doesn't even exist. That's fraudulent. The fact that this happens, I've heard of this happening before, but the fact that this happens it is come. Completely not okay to me. That anyone in law enforcement is creating a fake file, a fake case number, and giving it to victims' families. That is not okay. And I really hope that this is changing and people are no longer doing that, because how can you do that to a family who's already missing their daughter and worried about their daughter, and then giving them false hope that you filed a missing persons report when you actually didn't. It's terrible. So Elaine's grieving family decided to take it upon themselves to organize search parties and try and retrace elane steps. They would search roadways and wooded areas nearby the areas surrounding Zach's. They searched for eight long days. Law enforcement does, in fact say that they did search for a lane and they did what they could. In the investigation, they said that they started their search on September twenty second. They got tapes from a Zach's food rack and interviewed Elaine's friends and family, and they even said they use knines to track Elane's scent. Now, there was video footage that was obtained from Zach's, although it was nineteen ninety nine, so it wasn't the greatest, and it shows a dark colored pickup truck entering the lot while Elaine was on the phone with Billy. I really could not find much more on that, and I'm even of the mindset that I don't even know if that is a true piece of information, because the one thing about these older cases, and I know nineteen ninety nine doesn't seem like that long ago, but it was a lot of the Times. Information can be published online, and I do very much try to verify. My sources and everything that I say. But the thing about the vehicle, it was in an article that I assume is legit. It's by a pretty trusted news source in the Gainesville area, and I will link it below, but that's the only place I saw this information about the vehicle, So I did just want to be very clear. I am not sure if that is actual fact or not, but I wanted to put it out there because it could be a very important piece of information in this case. Unfortunately, the course of the investigation would change forever. On September twenty ninth of nineteen ninety nine, just nine days after Elane went missing, detective showed up to the Nixt home with the terrible news that a Lane had been found deceased. She was found. Seventeen miles away from Zach's food rack in an industrial park located at thirty one thirty one Verona Avenue that was located in Beaufort, Georgia. She was found by an industrial cutting dye employee who followed the smell of what he thought was decomposition into a wooded area near the industrial park. It was there that the discovery was made and law enforcement was called. Elaine was found nude except for a beaded black necklace and a ring that was from Billy. Her body was badly decomposed due to being out in the elements as it was very warm September in Georgia. The coroner was unable to determine cause of death. They had to identify Elaine through dental records and two of her tattoos. Elaine's parents were obviously very distraught by this news and they knew that whatever happened to Elaine, that she did not go down without a fight. Her clothes have still not been found to this day. The family had a closed casket funeral for her and they said their goodbyes to Elaine. The investigation didn't turn up much as far as Elaine's case goes and figuring out what happened to her. Since her b was so badly decomposed, they really didn't even have much to go off of in regards to what her cause of death was. The Knicks family very much believed investigators are just waiting for the person who did this to come forward and confess instead of actually going out there and doing a thorough investigation, and the Knicks family has been very critical of the investigation as a whole because there's never been anyone that has been publicly named as a suspect in Elaine's disappearance and subsequent homicide. Now, David has his own theory about what happened because Zach's food rack was often used as a place where truckers would pull in to stop and rest, and David isn't entirely convinced that there was something that Elaine witnessed that night that she wasn't supposed to see, maybe a drug deal, God knows, something of that caliber, and whoever was a decided that they needed to take her life in order to cover their tracks. The area where. Elaine was found also was known as a popular partying spot because it was secluded, so in my mind, it had to be a person that was familiar with the spot. In two thousand and five, a private investigator got involved in Elaine's case and he. Started going back over the evidence. He started reinterviewing those that surrounded Elane in the days leading up to her murder. He interviewed her family, he interviewed her friends, and he worked on her case for over two years, and he was very much of the mindset of whoever took a lane and took her life, brought her to the place where her body was dumped, because it was somewhere that he was very familiar with and very comfortable with, and not just a random area that he happened to stumble upon. And I will say that I very much agree with this because I looked up the industrial park and it's very isolated, it's very desolate. And in the last episode I did, I talked about the Eastbound Killer and he was dumping these bodies behind this hotel. And in my mind, it's because he was comfortable there. He knew the area. Well, it's a place that he went frequently and was very familiar with, and that is the place he chose to dispose of his victims. And I very much think that it is the same thing here, and this private investigator thought the same thing. It wasn't that this person just randomly decided to take Elaine's life and then put her in this area behind this industrial park. This was somewhere that he was comfortable with, familiar with, and somewhere that he knew and probably frequented. A lot, whether he was a former employee over there, or he was one of the people that would go party there because it was isolated and desolate. Either way, I fully believe that whoever took Elaine's life was very familiar with the spot. And if I'm an investigator, this is where I'm starting with everybody that could have any possible connection or tie to the industrial park. Now, this next part is interesting. There was some point in time where there were two identical letters that were intended for Becky Nix, Elaine's mom, and Jennifer Boyd, who was Elaine's best friend. And honestly, I have to give Jennifer a shout out in this episode because she is one of the main driving forces still to this day, behind keeping Elaine's case out in the forefront. So these two identical letters were intended for Becky and Jennifer, but they were sent to the wrong address. They were sent to another Jennifer Boyd, and these letters were basically implicating three individuals in Elaine's death. They were of course turned over to law enforcement, and law enforcement determined that they were simply just a hoax because the details and everything in the letters did not match up with the actual crime scene and the murder of Elaine Nicks. But that is, of course according to law enforcement, so we as the public don't know the context of what was inside of the letters, but I would hope that they thoroughly investigated what was in them and didn't just brush it off as a hoax right off the bat. But that is really all the information I have on that. In two thousand and five, there was somebody that came forward and told Dave Nicks, Elaine's dad, that he had seen four men dragging Elane away from the gas station that night, but they have never been able to determine that this tip was in fact the truth. And given that Gainesville is a very small town, there were a lot of rumors that around town people have pointed their finger at Billy, and naturally, I think anytime something like this happens, the boyfriend or the husband is always the first person who everybody kind of wants to point their finger at. Now, Billy has struggled with being in and out of jail most of his adult life on various drug charges, but he's never changed a story about what happened that night. Now he often will call Elaine's mom Becky when he gets out of jail, and Becky has said that she just has a feeling that he wants to tell her something, but he never really does. Now, this could be something related to Elaine's case, but he never really goes into detail about anything, and then he ends up back in jail again. Jennifer very much. Believes that Elaine's killer was someone she knew and was familiar with. The family has discussed having Elaine's body exhumed, as DNA technology is rapidly advancing, but from what I found in my research, the police department has refused to exhume her body, and I don't understand why this is the case. If the family is willing and wants to to try to see if they can possibly get some DNA that they can use against this newer technology, than the police department should be willing and able to do that as well. Now. I happened upon elaine story on Facebook, and when I first saw anything about Elaine, it was actually this post that I'm getting ready to read to you guys, because it very much caught my attention. I'm going to read it in full because I really think it offers some insight into some things that we all have questions about. This post was made to the Elaine Nick's memorial page, which I'll link below in the show notes, along with. My other sources for this episode. Now, this post is public on Facebook, so that is the reason I'm reading it, And honestly, it's the first thing I saw in relation to Elaine's story and it very much caught my attention, so that's why I'm reading it today. Mark's the anniversary of when Elaine was found in Gwinnette County, nineteen ninety nine. David Nicks and Becky Knix have no answers facts. She left home at eleven pm earlier that week, went to a payphone to call her boyfriend. He's the last known person to have spoken with her. He wouldn't give the parents any info on what was discussed or what he knows. He was interviewed by Hall County. He went camping after her death, did not attend visitation, but did attend funeral. That tattoos that law enforcement used to identify her, which were stated as a frog and a butterfly. Elaine never had a butterfly tattoo. She had a frog and a mushroom. There is a confession letter written supposedly by a now deceased businessman from Hall County. The first officer on the scene arrived the night Elaine had used the payphone. Per his report, he arrived one to two, two hours after her documented phone call to her boyfriend. He stated that he called in the tag and was informed no info. He proceeded to walk to her car and found the hood still warm. I googled the temperature for nine twenty ninety nine and it was about sixty seven degrees that night. How was her hood still warm? He found her book bag and drink in the car, yet failed to notice the keys were still in the ignition, and he did not contact her parents or anyone that night. Her mom found the car the next day, did not find any signs of her daughter, and told the clerk at the store that she was taking the car home. Wennette had Hall County deliver it to them after they found her body. One of the investigators on the case worked part time at the convenience store as security. He was the person that placed the VHS tape into the recording device that night as the store was closing. He lived in a trailer behind the store. He is now deceased. A lady state she drove by the store that night and saw Lane on the phone. She also witnessed a vehicle in the parking lot with three men in it. She was concerned about a young female being on the phone, and she thought about turning around, but didn't. Who is this lady? We don't know. Elaine's body was found by someone cutting grass at a new industrial site in Gwinett, two miles over the Hall County line. How did she get there? What happened to her? Close? She was found face down nude. Elaine's mom still has her jewelry in the evidence bag. She never removed it. No one else has touched it. They're somewhere safe. Can DNA be run on it now? We aren't sure. Gwinnette still says the case is open, yet the family gets no updates, no new info. Is it kept open so they don't have to release the records? Paul County will only release one hundred and five pages of records. The rest is connected to Gwinnette's open case and therefore will not be released. The confession letter. It was hand delivered to a home mail box of another female named Jennifer Boyd. The same name of Elaine's best friend. The wrong Jennifer saw the vehicle pull up and place the letter in her box. She had already known about the correct Jennifer boyd due to male mixups in the past. The wrong Jennifer reached out to Becky Nicks, and she and the correct Jennifer went to the wrong Jennifer's home to get the confession letter. The wrong Jennifer had made a copy of it about the same time and called the Gainesville Police department she lived in the city at the time. The officer that arrived told the ladies it's a hoax before even reading the letter. What else. The parents were advised not to view Elaine's body. They were never given photos to identify any parts of her body. Lime was placed on her body by the funeral home, as the parents were informed, they have never recovered her clothes. They've asked about exhuoming Elaine's body, but were apparently denied that request by a judge who knew about that industrial site. Why was she dumped there? Where was she taken before there? The first confession letter explains all of that. Enlist names. It said she was taken to Cleveland first, The site where Elaine was last seen, was not searched until her body was found. Her cigarettes were left in the car in the back seat. Who smokes and leaves her smokes in the back seat when traveling alone. There's a second confession letter. A friend tells a story of two truckers, father and son, who were allegedly involved. These men have also passed away. Now what's the true story? Someone knows something. Today would be a great day to give these parents closure, tell them what happened to their child. We've tried to get law enforcement to step up. The case needs to be turned over to a new detective willing to reopen a very cold case. What if this was your child? Tonight is the vigil at her gravesite at seven pm. Please come support these parents and everyone who loves and miss her so much. That is just such a heartbreaking post. And it's obvious that, like so many other cases I cover, law enforcement isn't really giving much information to the family in regards to anything about the investigation about the case. All of these letters and confessions and everything have been pretty much just dismissed by law enforcement as not being true. But how do we know that the truth isn't somewhere in there. It's very frustrating being on the outside looking in, and I can only imagine how frustrating and upsetting it is to Elaine's family and friends. It does sound like a lot of. People that may have information about that night and what happened to Elaine are deceased. It is also important to note that although there have never been any suspects publicly named by law enforcement, there are a lot of people who have been questioned, and no persons of interest have ever been necessarily ruled out. So in the family's eyes, anybody could be a potential suspect, and I honestly can't imagine going day to day not only dealing with the trauma of losing a loved one in the way that the family lost Elaine, but also dealing with the fact that they don't know who did it, and the fact that that person could still be out there terrorizing other people, or just simply living their life day to day, not giving the life that they took a second thought. Becky and Dave lived in the family home for about five more years following Elaine's murder, and they kept her room the exact same way it was the day that she went missing in September of nineteen ninety nine, they would move away and pack all of Elaine's belongings up, but Elaine is never far from their mind. They hold a candlelight vigil every year on the anniversary of her disappearance in September, And in my opinion, I think this case is very solvable. I think law enforcement needs to go back to square one. They need somebody to come in look at all the evidence, reinterview all of the witnesses, and go back through everything they have, requestion the family, requestion friends, and slowly but surely work their way through the evidence. If there is forensic evidence, they should test it against a new technology that we have now in almost twenty twenty six. Those two pieces could contain everything they need to solve this case. But law enforcement has to be willing and able to do it. They have to try to do it. It's honestly a true travesty if they are sitting on evidence and not testing it. Because this case could very easily be solved, and I will will never understand why a case like this just sits and sits and sits while the family waits for answers. I really do hope and pray that Elaine's family does get some resolution in her case and they don't have to keep fighting for investigators to do their actual jobs and do what they're supposed to be doing. They're not supposed to let this case fade into the background. They should be actively working on it.
