I'm your host, Kylie. Let's talk right now on true crime, and then together we are going to work on warming up some cold cases. Let's go. Hey, guys, welcome to an episode of Primetime Crime. It's Kylie. We are going to jump right into right now. In true crime. In the Kansas City three case, David Harrington, one of the victims, his parents, John and Teresa Harrington, appeared on Chris Cuomo's News Nation show and they basically reacted to the toxicology reports that have come out that suggest traces of cocaine to each c infentnyl. So they have said what matters is that he didn't take that to die. It just means that there's more to the story. There's more than just that he didn't take that to die. If he took drugs on his own, he took them to get high. His dad said that we keep getting answers that they are still investigating, so there's something there that they're saying. Maybe that's not right. So again, nothing has been said that they are pressing charges against Jordan Willis, and they are not investigating the deaths as homicides. And they asked David's parents if they thought that they brought the drugs to the house with them, and David's parents said they didn't know, but their thinking is that they got the drugs at Jordan's house. There have not been any arrests made, and the medical examiners have yet to actually reveal the actual cause of death. They have like the preliminary toxicology reports back which suggests to each ce cocaine fentanyl, but they haven't officially come out and said anything yet. So that is one that I am going to keep you updated on. Moving on to I feel like pretty big news this week the conviction of mother Jennifer Krumley. She is the mother of Michigan school shooter Ethan Krumley, who killed four students at his high school in November of twenty twenty one. So they brought charges against Jennifer and Ethan's father, charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the school shooting that happened with Ethan. So the reason that all of this came to be is because they found enough evidence that proved that Ethan's parents bought Ethan the gun that ended up being used in the shooting, and they failed to respond to warning signs that exhibited possible nefarious behaviors by Ethan before the shooting took place. So this is a really interesting topic of conversation. I like kind of hearing all different sides of the argument. I understand the standpoint of this, and I understand as one of the parents of the victims that you would want her to be held responsible and her husband as well to be held responsible because this gun was purchased by them, Ethan was given access to it, and he was also having some different things that were going on leading up to the shooting that they definitely could have intervened on definitely bad parenting, absentee parenting. But it's also really interesting to see what's going to go on from here because this is the first case of something like this happening where the parents, at least Jennifer has been officially convicted of something. Her husband and Ethan's father are set to go on trial. He's set to go on trial in March, So it's going to be interesting to see what happens here. I really thought that it was going to be a hung jury or they would say not guilty, but they I feel like they're making an example out of the situation, and I think it's just really interesting to see where this is going to fall in our justice system in the future, because there is it is very, I think, a very very gray area. I don't think it's black and white, because you have of Ethan. He was fifteen at the time. He should not have been given access to a gun and he shouldn't have been able to carry this out so easily. However, we have the argument that bad people who have bad intentions are going to find a way to do bad things regardless of if they can get their hands on a gun or another kind of weapon. I don't know. I like I said, I like to see all sides. I see all sides. I can argue from every single side. But I think it's a really important discussion to have, like you know, amongst like your peers and kind of talk about it because I feel like this is going to impact our justice system in a big way. Unfortunately, school shootings are not going to stop, and this really opens it up for a lot more people to really be held accountable in situations like this. In other news, there has been another body discovered in Austin's Lady Lake. I've talked about this previously on the podcast. There had been several bodies that had been found in Ladybird Lake over the last few months, and there was someone saying that this might be a serial killer. Other people are saying, no, it's just guys that are getting intoxicated at these bars and then they end up drowning in the lake. I don't really know, but it's definitely interesting because there's been five men between the ages of thirty and forty, all found dead in Ladybirg Lake within a few weeks of each other, and this last person that was found they have not revealed their identity yet, But that was the sixth body to have been pulled out of Ladybird Lake since January of last year. Six people in a year is a lot, and I don't really believe in coincidences like that. It just doesn't seem feasible to me that there's not something nefarious going on in Austin surrounding Lady Bird Lake. But I will definitely keep you guys updated on that because I feel like it's one worth looking into and one worth talking about. Okay, next story I'm talking about is the murder of Harmony Montgomery. Trigger warning for child death. So all of this is unraveling now as we speak. But Harmony Montgomery was five years old and in twenty nineteen, there was some back and forth with Harmony being moved from the house of her mom and her foster parents multiple times before eventually her father, Adam Montgomery, received custody in twenty nineteen and he moved to New Hampshire. So Adam's a strange wife who is named Kayla. She's also serving a eighteen month prison sentence. She has played guilty to perjury charges. She told the detectives in twenty twenty two that she and her husband, Adam, and their other children Harmony were in the car when Adam delivered sets of three to four blows with a closed fist to Harmony's face after she had a bathroom accident, and they then noticed that Harmony was dead and the car ended up breaking down, and then Adam put her body into a duffel bag. This is what Kayla is alleging, and then for the next three months, the investigators are alleging that Adam moved the body from container to container, place to place, and according to Kayla, the locations included the trunk of a friend's car, a cooler in the hallway of his mother in law's apartment building, a ceiling vent and homeless shelter, and an apartment freezer. Evil despicable shit. So, her disappearance and death was unreported for more than two years until her birth mother, who had lost custody due to a substance abuse issue, reported her missing in late twenty twenty one, and a massive search concluded and they announced that they had enough evidence to charge Adam with murder. And Harmony's body has never been found. Her remains have never been found to this day, so this trial is taking place like this week, it is happening, so today I'm recording this. On Wednesday, Adam went ahead and said that he is going to officially plead guilty to the two charges in the death of his daughter Harmony. So he pled guilty to falsifying evidence and abusing a corpse. So with the abusing a corpse it can literally be just like taking the body and moving it. So he pled guilty to those things, but has not has pled not guilty to account of second degree murder, and the trial is going to continue to go honest planned. Jury selection is officially complete, and they went on to kind of discuss the different key locations in the case. They are supposed to be visiting the Guilford Street home where Harmony, her father, stepmother, and siblings lived before they were evicted in November of twenty nineteen. They're also going to have the opportunity to drive by the parking lot of a complex where they lived in their car months after, and they're also be going to an apartment on Union Street where the Montgomery's also lived. All these places are alleged places where Harmony's body was stored because they moved her from place to place to place. Adam Montgomery is not a good guy, and the fact that it's all coming down to this, I almost wonder if they're going to offer him a like plea bargain, like, if you say that you did these two things will get you a lesser sentence kind of thing. I don't know what's going to go on, but I will for sure keep you guys updated on this. I definitely have no doubt in my mind that Adam killed Harmony. I do not think that it was accidental, and it is a real tragedy that this happened, and I just hope that he will fess up, admit what he did and tell the authorities where her remains are so her other family can lay her to rest in the appropriate manner and give her that little bit of dignity that her father took away from her. So I think for right now, that is all we're going to talk about for right now in True Crime. I don't want to make this too super long, but there was a lot to kind of get in, so we're going to go ahead and get started with today's episode. Okay, guys, jumping into a new case today. This one has been on my list for a long time, and it came across on Discovery I d the other day and then I decided I officially have to do it. I feel like we need to get this case solved, get more eyes on this case. So today we're going to be talking about the nineteen ninety one disappearance of an eleven year old boy named Mark Heimbaum. Mark Heimbaum was born on May twenty third of nineteen eighty. At the time of his disappearance, he was living in dell Haven, New Jersey, with his mom, Maureen, and his older brother, Matthew, and del Haven is in South Jersey, so kind of sort of towards like Jersey Shore area. Mark was a sixth grader at kate May County Alternative School, and Maureen and Mark's dad, Jodie, had been separated for about eight months prior to Mark's disappearance, and they were of course living separately. Mark did have some behavioral issues. He had some tantrums and some outbursts, but had recently started taking prozac and his behavior at this point was beginning to improve with medication and with therapy. So all in all, Mark was just a normal eleven year old boy. So it is November twenty fifth of nineteen ninety one. It is a Monday. This is the week leading up to Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving would be on Thursday. So Mark was your typical curious and adventurous preteen. It was around four o'clock in the afternoon and there was a brush fire nearby the high mom home, and Mark was curious about it. He had climbed up on the roof of his home to see if he could see anything, but really couldn't get a really good look at it, so he wanted to go down to the area where the brush fire was. There was a lot of emergency vehicles in the area and he wanted to try to get a better look, so he headed down towards the brush fire. His mom said he could go that way, and around that same time, his mom had gotten a phone call from a friend of hers who had asked if she could drop them off at the body repair shop to pick up their car that had been there getting serviced. So on her way, she drives by where Mark is and says, Hey, do you want to come with me? And Mark said no, I really want to check out this brushfire. So he went his way and Marine went her way, and that was that now due to all of the traffic and congestion in this area because of this brush fire, The trip that Maureene took to the body repair shop to drop off her friend and neighbor took a little longer than expected, so she was gone for I would say about an hour forty minutes to an hour, and when she got back to the home, Mark was nowhere to be found. Now, initially she didn't really think much of it. She thought maybe Mark got pulled in with some friends and was at a friend's house. But by the time the dark hit, which wasn't too long after Marine got home, she did become concerned because Mark always obeyed the rule that he had to be home before the sunset, and for whatever reason, Mark wasn't home this evening, and Marine pretty much right away thought something was wrong with him, so she contacted the local authorities and reported Mark missing. So by this point in time, the brush fire was all complete. They had already put it out, extinguished it, everybody that was in the area watching it. All the emergency vehicles had pretty much retreated at this point. But at the time of this brush fire, they had set up a detour because it was kind of in the area of Mark's home. They had set up a detour and the detour went directly through the street that Mark lived on, which was called Sunray Road, and initially police believe that this extra traffic and all the congestion could have potentially led to Mark being abducted because there were so many extra people on the street that day. And the last known sighting of Mark was around four pm at a local park. There was a custodian at kate May County South Park, which is the park that Mark was last seen at, and he said that he had saw Mark shortly before four pm that Monday, and this person had also said that Mark had been in the park with a girl who looked to be around the same age as him, but the custodian didn't notice if Mark and this mysterious girl had left the park together or not. There were several other teenagers who recalled seeing Mark as they were going towards the site of the brushfire. Mark was walking away from the side of the brushfire, and they even said that they had jokingly asked Mark if he had started the brush fire, and Mark laughed and they kind of walked in separate ways and at this point in time when these teenagers saw Mark, they said that Mark was only a few blocks away from his home. So all of this, whatever it was, the subduction transpired in really really close proximity to Mark's home, and Mark's dad would later come out and say that his son was a loner and spend a lot of time at the house and was very wary of strangers and wasn't one to talk to strangers, go with strangers, communicate with strangers, and him running away from home would have been very out of character for Mark, so they did not think that this was a runaway situation. They definitely thought that Mark had been abducted. They just had to figure out who did it and where was Mark. So investigators began their search. Mark had previously injured his left foot and he had some type of fracture. It was in the process of healing, but they thought that maybe Mark had been walking a lot and he had heard his foot and he had fallen. They thought that maybe he had fallen into a marsh or something like that, so they were searching in regards to thinking maybe he fell, but they also thought that maybe he had been abducted, so they kept searching and around nine thirty pm that evening, investigators and the different search parties found Mark's shoe at Sunray Beach. Now Sunray Beach was about seventy five yards away from where Mark's house was. But the weird thing about them finding this is they found the shoe at nine thirty in the evening Monday evening. That area had already been searched previously before nine thirty, and that shoe was definitely not there. And they also did find that Mark's footprints were observed near the tideline, and it almost you could tell that he had taken off his left shoe and started walking, so he had one chew on, one chew off, and they were trying to figure out why would he take off his left shoe, and they thought, well, maybe his foot was hurting because he had previously fractured it. But it was almost like they thought that this shoe had been intentionally placed there as kind of like a clue as to maybe like taunt the investigators, taunt the people who were searching for work, like hey, you're close but not close enough kind of thing. I don't know, that's what they seemed to think, that it was kind of placed there because they had already searched that area, so whoever took Mark was watching, and they were watching pretty closely in my opinion. Monday came and went, and they re began their search on Tuesday. They brought bloodhounds in and the bloodhounds did pick up a scent of Mark on the beach, but they lost the scent near the road, which kind of to investigators. They thought that this kind of proved that Mark got into a car and drove away. So there was an unconfirmed possible sighting of Mark with two men. One of them is described as thirty to thirty five years old, about five eight, one hundred and fifty pounds, with dark reddish brown hair and a ponytail. Like I said, this sighting has never been confirmed. They did come up with a composite sketch and I will post that on my Instagram and Facebook carousels when I post the pictures for the episode. But like I said, this sighting was never confirmed. They were never able to track down the people that they thought were with Mark that day, any potential suspects, any one persons of interest, so that was never confirmed to be true. Investigators and people in the community continue the search remark, but they were having no luck. Thanksgiving came and went, and the next day they got right back to the search. So the lead detective, Sergeant Oliver, admitted on Friday that he believed that Mark had been a victim of some foul play. He said that he found nothing to indicate that Mark had any issues at home or at school. He was having those behavioral issues, but those were kind of resolving, and they didn't think that Mark was a runaway, and they didn't think that he was lost in any marsh or had fallen down or anything like that. Mark was very familiar with his neighborhood in his area. He had always been outside. He was an outdoorsy kid, and he wasn't the type that would have gotten lost because he knew his surroundings so so well. And this is when they said, we officially believe that Mark has been abducted. The family announces that they're offering a ten thousand dollars reward for information leading to Mark's safe return, and then a low local heavyweight boxer donated an additional fifteen thousand dollars to leading to information for Mark's safe return, and they distributed missing persons flyers and posters, and there were a lot of tips that came in, but there was nothing solid that investigators could go off of to officially track down where Mark was. December thirteenth of nineteen ninety one, Mark's story was featured on America's Most Wanted. Of course, they presented it as a disappearance and possible abduction, and they definitely were trying to do everything they could to get Mark's name out into the media to spread the word because at this point, Mark could be anywhere. If he truly was abducted, he could be anywhere. Investigators went back to the custodian who said that he had saw Mark in the park with that girl that was about the same age, and they worked with a custodian and some sketch artists to come up with a composite sketch of the girl and they released it out into the media. But nobody in the area seemed to recognize her, which they thought was pretty concerning because Dell Haven, the area that this happened in, was a pretty small community and everyone pretty much knew everybody. So the fact that nobody knew who this girl was they couldn't identify her, thought that maybe she wasn't from the area, and they thought that whoever this girl was might have been used as kind of bait to help lure Mark in for the abdoctors. Maybe it's somebody else who had been abducted. It is a rabbit hole and you just really don't know in a situation like this. This girl might not even be connected in any way, shape or form. But figuring out who this girl is at this point in the investigation was so important to investigators, and they were coming up short every time that they tried. I am going to post the composite sketch of the girl as well. Again, this was nineteen ninety one. Composite sketches are not what they are now, and it's obvious the sketch of the girl it's a little bit not very good, but still, if she was somebody that was familiar in the community, I feel like somebody would have been able to identify at least kind of who she was. And nobody was able to come up with anything in regards to who this girl was that they saw Mark with. On June twenty third of nineteen ninety three, they released a new composite sketch of a potential suspect. I don't know if this is the same potential suspect that they had earlier that they thought they saw Mark with. But this guy is described as a white male in his twenties with long, dark hair parted in the middle. He wore square framed glasses and was believed to be driving a white compact car at the time. There was a roof rack at the top, and then different witnesses place Mark near this man's car shortly before he vanished. I'm going to share that sketch if that's the sketch I have versus the sketch of the person earlier. But I'm about to talk about a potential suspect, and this composite sketch, in my opinion, looks just like the potential suspect allegedly in my opinion, we're going to talk about him in a minute. But it's crazy how you can have a sketch and then have a suspect and they pretty much line up. But we are going to talk about him now. So in nineteen ninety three, there was a local sex offender named Thomas but Cavage Junior. That is his name. I did not make that up. And he was named as a person of interest in the disappearance of Mark. Now, there was somebody that worked for Thomas and they had come forward and said that on February fourteenth of nineteen ninety three, Thomas had shown this person a graphic video of a boy who was handcuffed and had been gagged. And this video was obviously of Thomas assaulting this child, which is horrific, horrific stuff. But this client of Thomas says that he was positive that this person in this video was Mark. And the client asked Thomas if it was the missing boy from New Jersey, and Thomas said that it was, and that he disposed of him and had done the same thing with about five or six other kids. So investigators get this tip, they search his apartment, but he never was charged in connection with the case, and to this day, he denies any involvement with the case. Now, when I say his client, I mean a gal that was a prostitute, because Thomas is a creep. So this gal that came forward was a client of his, but it was because he had hired her to have sex with him, because he's a creep obviously, So he had told this client that he liked to drive out side to the local area and snatch a child off the corner, take them somewhere and kill them. And this client also said that he had admitted to putting mark sneaker on the beach to throw investigators off. So they did think that this was pretty like intriguing information, But unfortunately, investigators weren't able to find any solid evidence to link Thomas to Mark's disappearance. But he looks just like the sketch. And when I say he looks just like the sketch, it literally looks like the sketch. Artist looked at a picture of Thomas, sketched a picture of him and release that as a composite sketch. I will die on this hill that I think there's more to this than meets the eye. But he has never been charged with his disappearance. He still remains a person of interest. They just have never been able to formally charge him with anything, just because the evidence isn't there. But I'm really appalled that this person, first of all, admitted to all of this and there's not more evidence that tie him to it. If he's obviously a sex predator, he's an offender, and I would not be surprised. If there are other children that are linked to him, other children's disappearances that are linked to him. There's just nothing concrete that is able to tie him to these crimes. But as I always say, in all of these unsolved stories and these unsolved cases, you can only hide from the truth for so long, and eventually it's going to catch up with you, and eventually you were going to pay for what you did. So whoever took Mark, I personally think that their time is running out and they are going to be caught soon. I hope and I pray for that. So in March of nineteen ninety five, there were several different sightings of Mark in Sacramento, California, and they had a lot of volunteers kind of nationally, and these volunteers started passing and posting all the different flyers around the city in hopes of additional tips coming in. But no reports did come in, and the original sightings in Sacramento, California never were able to be verified. That's the thing about a case like this going international. You get so many different tips from so many different people, and a lot of the times it's really really hard to verify that these tips are actually valid, and not just people calling because they think they saw someone that might have looked like Mark. Mark had a very distinct look, he had red hair, and I think at this point everybody was just looking out for any little redheaded boys that looked maybe like they were out of place, and it's very possible that a lot of these tips that did come in were not necessary, really credible. In twenty sixteen, Marine, who is Mark's mom, had told reporters that she accepted the fact that Mark was most likely not alive anymore, but still hoped that if he had been killed, that his body could be located so the family could have some sense of closure. And Maureene never moved out of the house that Mark grew up in. She kept everything the same, the telephone number just in case Mark had ever tried to contact her. She kept pictures of him on the walls, and his prize chess board remained on display inside of the house. She also celebrated Mark's birthday every year and said, you know, I don't know if he's still out there, but he still might be. There's always a chance, and she kind of clung to that hope. November twenty fifth of twenty twenty one and marked thirty years since Mark disappeared and the last time Marine saw her son. On the ID show that I watched, she had shared that before Mark had disappeared, there was a birthday present that Mark had bought for Marine and she hadn't opened it yet at this point in time, and she kept it for a while before she opened it because it was just too much. And when she did open it, it was a little troll doll, which is so nineties and I love it. This little troll doll with gray hair is the last thing that eleven year old Mark had bought for his mom. This is not somebody who was plotting to run away and disappear. This is somebody who was eleven. They were dealing probably with a lot of eleven year old stuff, preteen stuff. Had just started new medicine and was taken by a savage monster. And Marine holds onto that troll doll. She still has it. I will post a picture of her with the troll doll because it is the last thing that she has that reminds her of her son, and it is the last thing that her son got for her before he was taken by whoever. This horrible person is. Maureen still does remain hopeful that Mark's case will be solved. It has faded a lot from the national spotlight, but in the city of Dell Haven, it is still forefront for most of the residents because it is such a small community and the entire town at this point wants closure. They want to know what happened to Mark. They want to know what happened that day, and it's really scary that this happened in such a small town. Also scary that it happened amongst so much action that day, with all of the emergency vehicles because of the brush fire, all of the people that were just out on the streets that day. It literally happened when Mark should have been the safest because he was surrounded by people, and whatever happened happened in amongst all of that chaos. So in twenty twenty three, the Middle Township Police Department in the Kate May Prosecutor's Office said that they are going to officially enter an agreement with Tabtoo Corp. To use AI to assist with Mark's case, and they're hoping that the AI will be able to find patterns that can provide additional clues as to what happened in Mark's case. So I think it's really cool that we're able now to use AI for good and it's going to actually hopefully benefit some of these super cold cases that happened way back in the nineties or before, to hopefully bring resolution to these families. Because Mark deserves to be found. At the end of the day, so Mark could still be out there, he would be forty four years old. Now there is age progressive phoo of him. I will be sure to post when he went missing. He was, like I said, eleven years old, and he had blue eyed red hair. He had freckles. At the time of his disappearance, he was four feet tall and weighed eighty five pounds. He was last seen wearing gray pants, a blue shirt, a gray jacket, and white sneakers. I will also post a picture of the sneaker. If you have any information about Mark, please contact the Middle Township Police Department at six ' oh nine four six five eighty seven hundred. This is a case that I feel like is very solvable. The person that took Mark is still out there and they probably have preyed on other children before and since Mark and we unfortunately are running out of time because some of these colder, older cases, the person that did this is aging, and we're running out of time to get them off of the streets. They are getting older and it isn too late to bring someone in for a horrific crime, a child deduction, whatever the case may be, and we all need to be vigilant and realizing that these cases are solvable, and me having this platform is just another way to get the story out there to more people. Mark could literally be anywhere, and I am holding out hope that Mark is still out there somewhere, and hopefully he realizes that his family very much loves him and wants him to come home. So that is the story of Mark.
