Hey, guys, welcome back to Primetime Crime. It's Kylie. Let's dive right into right now in true crime, and then we are going to be covering a new case today and it's one that is in the news right now and I feel like we need to talk about it. So that's what we're going to be doing today. So right now in true crime, let's go. First thing I want to talk about is Kaitlyn Armstrong. She is currently standing trial for the murder of a gal named Moe Wilson, who This is a long story. If you guys want like in depth coverage of this story and the trial, go listen to Pretty Lies and Alibi. She's doing day to day trial coverage. But let me kind of break it down a little bit for you. So Caitlin Armstrong was dating a guy named Colin Strickland and they were kind of in on again, off again relationship. They all all three of the people in this case, Moe Wilson, Colin, and Caitlyn all were like bike writer, like professional like bike writer people. I know. There's probably a name for that, cyclists. That's the word, that's the name, cyclists. So they all kind of knew each other Colin and Caitlin, like I said, had on again, off again relationship, and previously, during one of their off times, Colin and Mo dated very very briefly and that was that, and then they ended up, you know, not seeing each other anymore, but they still remain friends and they were friendly. So Caitlin is obviously an unhinged human and found out that Colin and Mo were having lunch together and got super angry and jealous and stalked Mo on the Strava app which they all use because of their cycling, and ended up murdering her and then fleeing and getting plastic surgery to change her appearance, and for whatever reason, thinks that she can just continue to run from police. A few weeks ago, she was going to a doctor's appointment. Police were transferring her and she decided to try to run from cops. Even though she never was really out of their sight, she was trying to get away from them. She's just a piece of work and she thinks she can get away with a hell of a lot. And I don't know. I looked at her social media. She seemed like she was a nice, normal gal, and then she wasn't something happened. And also I will say the plastic surgery she got to change her appearance really did her no favors, Like it's really bad plastic surgery in my opinion. But that whole trial is going on now, and it's going to be really interesting to see how things unfold. Colin was is on the stand on Friday giving his account of everything and his testimony, so cross examination for him begins back up on Monday. So I'm really interested to see kind of the way in the direction that they go with that, because I know that they're going to try to paint Caitlin as a victim and Colin was stringing her along and this and this and that. But at the end of the day, you cannot justify taking another person's life because you are unsure of the way that your relationship is progressing, Like you need to get it together. There's no man on earth that is worth killing another woman for. Like women need to stick together and not fight and be pitted against each other and be enemies. Like if you want to be mad at somebody, Caitlin, be mad at Colin. Even though I don't think Colin did anything wrong, let me be clear on that he just was having lunch with one of his friends who he formerly dated. But you can't blame Mo for any of that. You can't blame Colin for any of that. But if you're gonna blame anyone, take it up with Colin. Don't kill Colin, but take it up with Colin, like, be a rational, sensible person and have a conversation before you go and murder somebody. She is a piece of work. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this trial and I can't wait to hopefully see her behind bars because not only did she murder Mo allegedly, but she also ran from cops and tried to escape them. So it's a whole thing. And this is like an ever evolving case, as is every case I cover. I feel like ever evolving. On Friday's episode of Right Now in True Crime, I talked about how the FBI was going to go back to the Idaho house, the Idaho for Brian Coburger case and collect evidence, and they did. They boarded the house, they went in, they did what they had to do, and they boarded it back up. So obviously there's something in that house that they felt like they needed to get access to that they wanted to go back in. They're enough to onboard the house, and then they went in, they did their thing, and now it's back to being boarded back up. But like I said, I hope that they don't tear this house down before trial because it is so important. I feel like that that house is still standing just in case they need to go in there for more evidence, or they want to bring the jury in so they can see the layout of the house. There's so many reasons to keep the house up through the trial for me, in my opinion, So it'll be really interesting to see what happens. It's crazy to me that that trial was supposed to happen last month at the beginning of last month, and it probably would have been over by now or just about over, and now we're not going to be a trial until next year. It's just wild that it potentially could have been over. And it's going to be really interesting to see what all they have. I think we're going to learn a lot. I think it's going to be really really hard to hear some of the details and some of the things that come out. And I think that regardless, it's going to be sad we're coming up on one year since this horrific tragedy happened, and I don't want people to lose sight of why this is all going on. Four people for kids. These were young kids, most of them hadn't even turned twenty one yet. These were young kids who lost their lives, and I always want people to remember that that is the reason that everything is going on right now, because these four young, young, young kids were tragically taken, brutally murdered in their own home by this monster, Brian Coberger allegedly, and it just it doesn't make sense. It's never going to make sense. I don't think we're ever going to know the real story as to why he did it. But I feel like the trial is going to bring a lot of new things forward and we're going to hear a lot and I really cannot wait for the day that justice is officially served. Speaking of horrible humans, I don't know what's going on right now with women and their murderous rampages. But another one, Shanna Gardner. She is accused of conspiracy to commit murder, first degree murder solicitation in regards to the death of her ex husband Jared Bright again, and she is a horrible human allegedly, and she has hired Jose Bias to be her attorney. Now, for those that don't know, Jose Bias was case See Anthony's attorney, And you guys know, I'm all for the defense. Respect. I respect defense attorneys. I understand their purpose in life. I always said if I were to be an attorney, I would probably be a defense attorney because everybody deserves the right to be represented. But Casey Anthony is no good and Jose Bay has represented her, and it just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth that he's representing Shanna, Shanna, Shana, whatever her name is. I think it's Shanna. It just leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I don't like it. He got Casey Anthony off, and I really don't want that to happen in this case. The good thing about it is Jared's family is very wealthy and they are going to be able to hire the best of the best to represent them and hopefully get justice for Jared. Because this woman is horrible. I'm probably gonna try to do a little in depth episode about the whole Shanna and Jared situation because it's a lot to kind of explain in just this right now in true crime, but be on the lookout for that and I will be sure to keep you guys updated. And with that, we are going to go ahead and go in to today's episode. All right, guys, we are jumping into a new case today. It is one that has been in the news recently, and everything that we know about this case and the suspect, it's all right in front of us, and we just have to connect the dots and figure out who this person is. And I kind of went back and forth because there are so many serious cold cases that I feel like I need to cover, and I feel like I can't cover them quick enough. But if I don't cover this case, it could become one of those cold cases. And I think that is super solvable right now, in this in this year twenty twenty three, We can solve this case. And anything I can do to help bring attention to it is what I'm going to do to prevent it from becoming a cold case that thirty years down the line, we're still asking who killed Rachel. So today we are going to be talking about the murder of a gal named Rachel Morin. And this just happened in August of this year in Maryland. So I feel like once I outline everything that happened and talk about all of the evidence that law enforcement has, I think everyone's going to realize how super solvable this one is, and we all just need to come together to figure out who the hell this person is and get them off the streets before they hurt someone again. So, as always, I want to take a little bit of time and talk about who Rachel was and what she was doing in her life leading up to her unfortunate murder. So we are going to start there. So Rachel Moran was thirty seven years old at the time of her death. She was born May twentieth of nineteen eighty six in New Hampshire and her family would later move to Maryland and actually used to live right by the mon Paw Trail, which is where she went missing from. And she grew up in Maryland, so she was like super comfortable there. So she was a daughter to Patty and the late Ronald Zach Morin, and she had five children, and she was a very dedicated, hard working mom. She worked as a house cleaner, business cleaner, worked for herself, and she was a very hard worker and worked hard to provide for her family. She was very passionate about her children and her family more than anything. She loved fashion. She was a fitness enthusiast and she would participate in five k's and she would always be going to the Gentle of Dwaits. And she also enjoyed traveling and was the life of the party and had a spel knack for making people laugh and just sounds like your average all around thirty seven year old woman. Her children are between the ages of eight and eighteen, so they all obviously vary. She does have a daughter that has autism, and I can't imagine how hard that's been for the adult setter in her life to try to explain to her about what has gone on with her mom. If she can even understand that mom is not going to come back, it has to be so hard for them, and I really feel for the remainder of her family having to try to navigate such a difficult time. So, like I said, this case takes place out of Maryland, Belle Air, Maryland, to be exact, and that is about forty miles from Baltimore, and this is the area that Rachel grew up in she was very familiar with it. I did see an article where her mom had told her, even though Rachel was thirty seven years old, her mom always had told her, don't go to the mon Paw Trail by yourself. And I think that's just a mom being a mom, And I get it. The trail is pretty wooded and it's a beautiful trail. I've seen pictures of it. But I get not wanting your daughter to be going out there, especially by herself. So but I also understand Rachel being you know not you never think that the bad thing is gonna happen to you, so you feel like you should be able to go for a jog or a walk in your hometown where you've lived your whole life. It's just hindsight is twenty twenty with all of these things, like I've gone running walking at night time, probably putting myself in unsafe situations, not even realizing I was putting myself in unsafe situations. But you feel like you can be safe in your own neighborhood and your own community, and unfortunately that's not the case. So on August Rachel went for a walk and she never returned, and in the late evening hours of August fifth, her boyfriend, like brand new boyfriend, reported her missing and said that she did not return from her walk and she had last been seen on the trail around six pm, and they were able to find her vehicle near the trail. Unfortunately, just a day later, on August sixth, they found Rachel's body near the mon Paw Trail and immediately said that she was definitely a victim of a violent murder. Of course, initially when everything had happened, Rachel had been reported missing and then they had found her body. Of course, the public being the public, they zeroed in on Rachel's boyfriend, who really they were only Facebook official four days before Rachel ended up being killed, so of course people are going to zero and on him. His name is Richard Tobin, and he was very very quick to say he had nothing to do with it and said, I love Rachel. I would never do anything to her. Let the family and I grieve. And this is true. This guy's only twenty seven years old. I can't imagine being involved with somebody like just started officially dating and then they're murdered, Like I just can't even imagine the grief process that goes along with that, and then of course being the boyfriend, you're automatically going to be like number one suspect for many many people, including law enforcement, Like law enforcement is going to go through the proper channels to start closest to the person that has been killed and then kind of go from there rule people out as as things go along. So even for law enforcement, I'm sure he and other people that were close to Rachel were on their radar pretty much immediately. And in a Facebook post, Richard had said that he did have a past and that there are court records that are public that shows that he has been arrested for criminal second degree assault, malicious destruction of property, drug possession, and violating restraining orders. But he said, you know, I do have a past, but I also have fifteen months clean and have changed as a person. And that is a really prime example of how somebody like Richard in this case could very quickly become the number one suspect just because he's done some bad things in his past. But I say it all the time, just because you've done X, Y and Z bad things in your past doesn't always make you a killer. And in this case, Richard had nothing to do with Rachel's death, and he was very quickly cleared as a suspect. And I really hope that the media and the public's portrayal of who he is has kind of stopped and people have stopped harassing him online, because that, I feel like, is such a detriment to a case like this, because you're so focused on this one person being guilty, and you're harassing this man on Facebook and saying all these horrible things, and meanwhile, the person that really did kill Rachel is out there and they're doing god knows what to God knows who, committing more crimes while you're focused on Richard, who did shit twenty years ago. It's not important to this case. What's important to this case is that we figure out what happened to Rachel and who is responsible, and not focus our time on stuff that Richard did when he was in his twenty like in his teens. All right, So here's where we get into the nitty gritty of this case and who is responsible. So the Hartford County Sheriff's Office provided an update on Thursday, August seventeenth, and they said that they obviously were able to take DNA from the scene of Rachel's homicide, and they entered it into the database and the DNA analysis came up with a match. So the DNA that was analyzed by the Maryland State Police ran through the National Combined DNA Index and which is called CODIS for those that don't know. And this DNA evidence has come back as a match tied to a home invasion and an assault of a young girl in Los Angeles in March. So there was, and there still is, this video that goes around that it's doorbell camera video of the undoneafied mail leaving the scene of the Los Angeles assault where he assaulted a underage girl. Like, we're talking literal piece of shit human who all to this underage girl in Los Angeles in March and then months later in August winds up in Maryland and then randomly attacks and murders Rachel. So this video, which I'll share, it shows the man leaving the home. He doesn't have a shirt on, and based on the video, police believe that he is about five feet nine inches tall, he's around one hundred and sixty pounds, in his early to mid twenties, and he's of Hispanic descent and they said that we don't know anything about him other than he was in la and committed that crime in March, and then he was in Maryland in August. And they believe that he is the one that killed Rachel just because the DNA matches from each scene. That's how they were able to tie it together. They just don't have an identification on who this guy is. Police do believe that he acted alone and they have no reason to believe that he even knew Rachel, and they think that it was just a random act of violence. And police have also said that the area in Maryland bel Air, Maryland, where Rachel was attacked, it's not really a place that you stop in. It's not a place that you take a bus to and you're just randomly in the area. You're usually in that area because you have ties to somebody in that area. So they do believe that he was there for a reason and he just got the urge to attack a woman, probably potentially maybe and who knows what happened, if he intended to murder her or not, but regardless, he did murder her. And somebody like this is a very dangerous person and they are out there and they're not going to stop, especially the home invasion and assault in March in California, a murder in August. There's a lot of time between March and August where this individual could have done God knows what to, God knows who, God knows where. And now we're in November and this person is still out there. Despite there being video and DNA evidence against this person tying him to two different crimes, this person is still out there, and at this point it becomes a situation of trying to find this person and apprehend them before they commit another crime, attack another woman, take another life, assault another underaged person. This is so important. Time is of the essence in this case. Rachel's family has been very, very vocal about trying to catch this person and get justice for Rachel. So Rachel's mother, Patty has been, like I said, very vocal as well, and she's given many interviews, but this one particular interview, she said, we're so connected that it physically hurts us that she's not here. I know it's a fact, but I can't accept it yet. So Patty said that she homeschoolds her six children and said that Rachel was sensitive, insecure, and even stuttered terribly up until just a few years ago, and she said it also gave her compassion towards other people because she was made fun of as a child. Patty also went on to say she didn't see herself as being a target or at risk for anything. She lived life as Rachel. She loved people and was outgoing, so that made me scared for her, and I would tell her all the time, Rachel, don't walk the trail by yourself. I've seen my daughter since they found her, but seeing her and accepting it are like two different things. Patty has also spoken out in regards to this mystery man who is allegedly her daughter's murderer. And you know it's been out there, it's been very public, and she says his mother knows who this man is, and my question is why why are you protecting him? And she's right, if you know who this person is, which I'm sure many people know who this person is. They've seen the video on the news, come forward and give up the gig, whoever it is is. I don't care who you are in my life. If I see you on the news and you're being alleged to have been murdered, have like murdered someone. I'm going to turn you in, like I'm just I'm doing it. I'm turning you in. This is my fair warning to you. I'm going to turn you in. And it's amazing to me how many people will just act oblivious and not say anything just for the sake of being loyal or to protect somebody that they love, Like I understand that aspect of it, But then I also understand the aspect of like you need to if you're one of the key pieces to solving this case, and you need to be the one to step up and say, hey, I know who this person is, Patty says. I know over time, people will forget details, people will forget Rachel. I don't want Rachel to end up as a folder on somebody's desk because people will move on to the next sensational story. I don't want that for her, And that is exactly what I said at the start of this episode. I could very easily go on to cover so many other hold cases that have been called for twenty years, fifteen years, ten years, but I don't want Rachel's case to be one of those, because everything we need is right in front of us, and I feel like together as a society, we need to come together and figure out who this person is and get them off the streets because they are dangerous. They are a predator, and if they're going to attack Rachel on a trail at six o'clock in the evening on a Saturday, there's no saying that they're not going to do something like that again, because they've gotten away with it once and they're going to keep doing it until they get caught. So at the end of the day, we all need to come together. We need to share the story. We need to get this story out there. We need to get this person's picture out there, even though it's just like the backside of him. Whoever knows this person knows who this person is, and they are going to be able to identify him and and we are hopefully going to be able to get justice for Rachel. This one is super super solvable, guys. I cannot stress that enough. And I don't want to be talking about this story five years from now saying we still don't know who the sky is. But yet there's all these other cases now that have happened, all these other people who have had to lose their lives, or been assaulted because this person is still out there. So, as I say with every episode, please share this episode. There are so many episodes I do where I just feel like the more eyes and ears we have on them, the better. The more people that know about it the better. The more people that see the images of the sky the better. There is also a Facebook group that you guys can join for updates. I'm actually in two on Facebook. One is Rachel morn dash Manhunt, and then there is another one which is Justice for Rachel Morin and they are both active. People are posting in them every day, and I feel like the more guys we get on this case, the better. The sheriff had said that an analysis of data on social media shows that eighteen million people around the world have caught some portion of the story involving Rachel's killing, and currently there is a thirty thousand dollars reward for information leading to the arrest of this horrible human who took Rachel's life and also assaulted a minor in March in California. So remain vigilant, Like I say this all the time, if you were out and about, especially the ladies out there, If you were out and about. You're in a parking lot, you're in a park, you're running, you're walking, you're just existing in life. Stay very vigilant, have mace, have a way to protect yourself. If the worst shot should happen. You never think it's going to happen to you. It's very common to feel like you're safe in your own community. I felt that way. I know a lot of people who feel like they should feel safe in their community, but always have a plan. You don't have to be afraid to go out. You just need to be prepared. Have mace. You can get a really cheap thing of mace on Amazon for under ten bucks. Learn how to defend yourself against somebody if they were to try to attack you. Learn what you would do in that situation. Have a plan and rehearse that plan. Have everything planned out so God forbid, if something does happen, you're able to defend yourself and you're able to get away at the end of the day. I would rather some creepy wirdo who attacks you to have mace sprayed in their eyes, then have to hear about someone else losing their life to a situation like this. Be prepared, stay vigilant, stay aware, Always have a safe word with your friends and family or a code word with your friends and family. Don't run or walk with your ear pods in. Always be aware of your surroundings, be able to hear things approaching behind you, Always look over your shoulder. These are all things that I have implemented in life, and it just makes me feel so much safer knowing that if something were to happen, that I have a plan and that I am prepared to defend myself worst case scenario. So that is my little soapbox for all the ladies and the men out there for that matter. We shouldn't have to think about these things, but we also shouldn't live in fear. And you don't have to live in fear. You just have to live and be prepared that something potentially could happen. Always be prepared just in case.
