[00:00:03] We are going to talk right now on true crime and then together we are going to unravel

[00:00:07] the mysterious death of attorney and law professor Dan Markell, the circumstances surrounding

[00:00:13] his death and those responsible.

[00:00:16] Let's dive right in.

[00:00:17] Alright guys, welcome to part five summer series 2024 Dan Markell.

[00:00:23] Today we are going to be talking about day two of the trial happenings of the trial

[00:00:28] against Charlie Adelson.

[00:00:30] If you have not listened to the first four parts, I highly suggest you go back so you

[00:00:35] are not completely lost in what I am talking about.

[00:00:38] But day two of court we pick up with Wendy Adelson still on the stand being cross-examined

[00:00:45] by the defense attorney for Charlie Adelson, Daniel Rashbaum.

[00:00:51] So in Daniel's continuing questioning of Wendy Adelson who is the sister of Charlie

[00:00:57] Adelson, the suspect in the case and the ex-wife of our victim Dan Markell.

[00:01:04] So he very much was questioning her trying to paint a picture of how she was making

[00:01:11] plans in Tallahassee and wanted to stay in Tallahassee and this wasn't really

[00:01:16] a motive for her because she didn't want to leave Tallahassee even though that's

[00:01:22] what literally happened.

[00:01:24] Like there's evidence and proof and all of the things, the receipts, the screenshots,

[00:01:29] the timeline, the whole thing.

[00:01:31] And yes that was a Bravo Housewives reference if you know, you know.

[00:01:35] So he was basically just trying to get her to talk about all the things that she

[00:01:42] was doing in Tallahassee.

[00:01:44] She was setting up dates with different men.

[00:01:47] She was looking at homes and different properties in Tallahassee, looking at

[00:01:51] schools to enroll her kids in.

[00:01:54] He also went very hard on the fact that she was also making plans following July

[00:01:58] 18th of 2014 which is the day that Dan Markell ended up being shot and killed.

[00:02:03] She was planning parent visits, meetings with different divorce attorneys,

[00:02:09] meetings with professors and planning birthday parties for her children.

[00:02:14] So his whole thing is how could this have been a planned or murder for hire by

[00:02:20] Charlie Adelson if Wendy was making all of these plans even after the murder of

[00:02:27] Dan Markell was supposed to happen.

[00:02:29] So then Georgia Kaplman comes up on redirect and she is going to try to

[00:02:35] dismantle every single thing that Daniel Rashbaum just said.

[00:02:39] She brings up Wendy Adelson's book which we are going to talk about here

[00:02:42] in a second.

[00:02:43] She also brought up how often the Markells were allowed to be in touch with

[00:02:48] their grandchildren.

[00:02:49] We're going to talk about Wendy's book now because I think that this is so

[00:02:52] interesting.

[00:02:54] Wendy Adelson wrote a book that seemingly was kind of modeled after her

[00:02:59] own life.

[00:03:00] This is the most interesting thing to me.

[00:03:02] So this book is called This Is Our Story and it's three first person

[00:03:08] narratives and it's about a young female lawyer and two of her clients who are

[00:03:16] essentially forced into a sex trafficking type situation.

[00:03:21] So this is a summary from outside the law school cam dot block spot dot com.

[00:03:29] In the novel, Lily, a lawyer in her early 30s, gives up a thriving corporate

[00:03:33] practice in D.C. to follow her seemingly bright and sweet, if exasperatingly

[00:03:39] blunder prone new husband Josh Stone to this godforsaken place, namely North

[00:03:44] Florida State University where Josh holds a professorship.

[00:03:48] Unfortunately, Josh installs Lily in what he describes as an adorable cozy

[00:03:54] country house that he has just rented without realizing that the place is

[00:03:58] infested with cockroaches.

[00:04:00] Lily overcomes her disgust at her new digs and the boredom of small town life

[00:04:04] by hooking up with a nonprofit and becoming a pro bono immigration attorney,

[00:04:09] specializing in helping trafficked women.

[00:04:11] The only one in a 300 mile radius.

[00:04:15] The Lily chapters are notable for the characters increasing contempt for her

[00:04:19] husband.

[00:04:19] Lily criticizes Josh for his short stature.

[00:04:22] She says he is my same height, which is something I had never considered

[00:04:26] pre-Joshua because I had already determined that my dating window

[00:04:29] extended only from six foot two to six foot four.

[00:04:33] His pouting, his habit of calling her Lily Billy Goat under the

[00:04:37] misimpression that it is endearing.

[00:04:40] His insincerity and asking what she wants him to make for dinner when he

[00:04:44] had already begun preparing spaghetti and pasta sauce.

[00:04:48] So basically in this book you have Lily who is a lawyer.

[00:04:53] She marries this law professor.

[00:04:56] They move to this town that she absolutely hates and she obviously hates

[00:05:00] everything about her husband, everything he does, everything he says and hates

[00:05:05] where she lives.

[00:05:07] And does that not sound like the case that I have been presenting to you

[00:05:11] guys for the last four now five episodes of Wendy Adelson absolutely

[00:05:15] hating living in Tallahassee wanting to spread her wings, wanting to move

[00:05:19] her children.

[00:05:21] It's all just way too coincidental.

[00:05:22] And as we know, I do not believe in coincidences.

[00:05:26] So continued on the redirect, Wendy says that the Marquelles are allowed

[00:05:34] to see their grandchildren whenever they want.

[00:05:37] And that is not true.

[00:05:39] I will just say that that is not true.

[00:05:42] And that was it for now for Wendy Adelson because the next few witnesses

[00:05:46] are going to poke all of the holes in her story.

[00:05:51] And we're here for it, truly.

[00:05:52] The next witness is a guy named Bill Brannon.

[00:05:55] He is a officer.

[00:05:57] He is one of the people who was in charge of securing the crime scene

[00:06:02] after Dan Markell was shot.

[00:06:05] So he said that Wendy Adelson drove up to the active crime scene.

[00:06:13] So Bill Brannon was in charge of making sure that the roadblocks were in place

[00:06:20] so obviously nobody could drive by the crime scene as they were trying

[00:06:24] to secure it and all of the things.

[00:06:28] So he testified that the roadblock that Wendy would have encountered

[00:06:34] on her drive to the liquor stores where she said she was going

[00:06:38] was far from Centerville and that she would have had to drive

[00:06:45] a considerable distance onto Trescot, which is where Dan Markell lived

[00:06:50] in order to see this roadblock.

[00:06:52] Because if you remember, she said she saw the roadblock

[00:06:55] and she thought that they were cutting down a tree

[00:06:58] or that a tree had fallen.

[00:06:59] So she just decided to turn around and go the other way.

[00:07:02] But Bill Brannon is saying this is false.

[00:07:06] She would have had to go way out of her way to see this blockade

[00:07:13] and she's obviously lying about it.

[00:07:16] And he also went on to say that there was a lot of activity

[00:07:20] at that house that morning.

[00:07:21] There were several law enforcement vehicles.

[00:07:24] There was different crime scene vehicles that were unmarked.

[00:07:29] There was police lights, crime scene tape.

[00:07:33] And it was undeniable of what was going on.

[00:07:37] If you got close enough, you knew that something had gone down

[00:07:41] at the home of Dan Markell.

[00:07:43] And Bill Brannon went on to say that he witnessed a vehicle which

[00:07:47] ended up being identified as Wendy's minivan pull up to the scene,

[00:07:52] abruptly turn around, and then leave and drive off

[00:07:55] in the other direction.

[00:07:57] And he said initially this kind of struck him as odd

[00:08:00] because other vehicles would pull up.

[00:08:02] They would kind of look and pause for a minute

[00:08:05] to try to figure out what route to take next.

[00:08:07] And then they would turn around.

[00:08:09] But this vehicle literally came up, took a quick turn around,

[00:08:14] and then sped off, meaning she knew what was going on, allegedly.

[00:08:19] Daniel Rashbaum on cross-examination,

[00:08:22] he wanted Bill Brannon to go into more specific detail

[00:08:25] about how many houses down from the crime scene

[00:08:29] the roadblock actually was.

[00:08:31] And Brannon ended up clarifying that from where the roadblock stood,

[00:08:37] the crime scene was fully visible at the time and place

[00:08:42] Wendy was seen that day.

[00:08:43] So she wouldn't have had to get up any closer

[00:08:46] to see what was going on.

[00:08:48] She would have had a really clear idea

[00:08:50] that something major was going on from the area

[00:08:54] that she was sitting at.

[00:08:55] And also, it's important to note that Dan Markell had dropped

[00:09:00] their kids off that morning.

[00:09:02] If this was all a plan and all in place,

[00:09:05] and for whatever reason, the kids ended up not being dropped off

[00:09:09] and ended up being at that house or in the car

[00:09:12] when Dan ended up being shot, it is an entirely huge possibility.

[00:09:18] And if Wendy knew about that and she pulled up on the street,

[00:09:21] saw what was going on, and didn't think for a second

[00:09:25] about her kids being possibly injured,

[00:09:27] that, to me, tells you a lot about what she knew about the story.

[00:09:32] Now, Wendy has not been arrested as of my recording this.

[00:09:36] Wendy has not been arrested and charged with any connection

[00:09:40] to the killing of Dan Markell.

[00:09:42] But I just think a lot of this stuff

[00:09:45] is way too close for comfort for me.

[00:09:47] The next witness that was called was a guy named Stephen Webster,

[00:09:53] and he was the divorce attorney, and he represented Dan Markell.

[00:09:58] And his testimony very much confirmed

[00:10:02] that this divorce was nasty

[00:10:05] and it was definitely not a nice civil type of divorce situation.

[00:10:13] Dan Markell had also planned on filing a motion

[00:10:17] to hold Wendy in contempt because it was discovered

[00:10:21] that she was hiding money from some of the disclosures that she had.

[00:10:25] So in the midst of all of this, of Dan getting murdered,

[00:10:29] he was in the process of filing this.

[00:10:31] So they asked him about that, Georgia Kaplamandad,

[00:10:36] and he said, you know, Wendy's a lawyer.

[00:10:40] She should have been held in contempt.

[00:10:43] She didn't disclose things on her financial affidavit.

[00:10:46] And at the end of the day, you could use your law license over that.

[00:10:50] They went on to talk about Dan Markell's filings and all of that,

[00:10:54] and he was asked if he thought that Dan Markell's motion would fail.

[00:10:59] And he said, no, I would not have gotten involved

[00:11:02] if I thought he was going to lose on the contempt.

[00:11:05] He also went on to testify that Dan Markell was not planning

[00:11:09] on moving away from Tallahassee.

[00:11:11] And of course, this is opposite from what Wendy Adelson had told the jury.

[00:11:16] And he went on to say that he never went to court with Dan Markell

[00:11:21] because he was killed before he got the chance.

[00:11:24] And that is all for that witness.

[00:11:26] Next witness, we are going to hear from a gal who dated Charlie Adelson.

[00:11:33] Her name is June Amchinda.

[00:11:36] She was actually missing in action for a hot minute when she was supposed to be there,

[00:11:41] but they eventually did find her.

[00:11:43] But she had testified in the previous trials against the co-conspirators,

[00:11:48] and she was still very enamored and really loved Charlie Adelson.

[00:11:55] And she wanted to protect him.

[00:11:58] And even though he had treated her poorly and was cheating on her,

[00:12:04] she still really was fond of him.

[00:12:07] Georgia Kaeperman for a state ended up going through a timeline of her and Charlie's relationship,

[00:12:13] which began in 2015.

[00:12:16] They officially broke up in 2017, and then they had an on again off again type of situationship.

[00:12:22] And the last time that they had officially spoken was a day or two before his arrest.

[00:12:28] And she asked if do you still have feelings for Mr. Adelson as we sit here today?

[00:12:34] And she went on to say there's still something there.

[00:12:37] I care about him.

[00:12:39] And they had been involved at the time of the bump, the FBI bump that was done.

[00:12:46] And they had seen each other pretty much daily.

[00:12:49] But their relationship had changed shortly after that.

[00:12:52] She had shared that Charlie had told her not to talk to police if they came to her house

[00:12:58] and said that he had been acting strange for the past few weeks.

[00:13:02] And she also noticed that he had been talking at all hours of the night with Katie Magvanawah,

[00:13:11] Katherine Magvanawah.

[00:13:13] And they went on to ask if Mr. Adelson ever show any interest or curiosity to you

[00:13:19] and who had killed his brother-in-law.

[00:13:21] And she said he just said he didn't know who did it.

[00:13:25] It was like an unsolved mystery.

[00:13:27] I'm sure it was.

[00:13:29] She went on to say that after Katie was arrested in October 2016,

[00:13:33] he started behaving like someone who was being accused of murder.

[00:13:37] He was, quote, super stressed and was scary to be around.

[00:13:42] And he also got a second and third phone at that time.

[00:13:47] And he started communicating through WhatsApp.

[00:13:50] And he had guns close by.

[00:13:53] Basically, he was running scared and paranoid that the walls were closing in.

[00:13:58] And they were. That is true. They were.

[00:14:01] She also testified that Donald Adelson was also super stressed during this period of time.

[00:14:06] She was taking painkillers.

[00:14:09] And she, for one, Donna never expressed any curiosity about who had killed Dan Markell,

[00:14:16] who was her former son-in-law.

[00:14:19] She also said that Charlie and Wendy had been fighting about the case

[00:14:23] and they were not on speaking terms,

[00:14:25] which again is very interesting because Wendy Adelson herself says

[00:14:29] that she never spoke with her family about Dan's case and Dan's murder.

[00:14:35] She then went on to say that Charlie had a habit of stapling

[00:14:40] $100 bills together in two bundles.

[00:14:44] And she was asked after your breakup,

[00:14:47] did Charlie make any big ticket purchases for you?

[00:14:49] A car, a condo? And she, of course, said no.

[00:14:54] And then Daniel Rashbaum came up for cross-examination

[00:14:58] and he wanted to establish that he or any of his colleagues had contacted her at any point.

[00:15:05] And he asked if she was aware that there was barbed wire around Charlie's house

[00:15:12] and camera systems.

[00:15:14] And the reason that he had the guns by his nightstand were because of Dan Markell's murder

[00:15:19] that he thought that the family was being targeted and that he was in fear.

[00:15:24] Then Daniel Rashbaum asked her, has Charlie ever told you to lie?

[00:15:29] And she said yes.

[00:15:31] And then she went ahead and corrected it and said, no,

[00:15:35] I thought that the question was whether Charlie had ever told me a lie.

[00:15:40] So we know Charlie Adelson ain't a good human.

[00:15:43] He's not a good person. He's not a good boyfriend.

[00:15:46] He's not a good partner. He's not a good son.

[00:15:48] He's not a good brother. He's not a good brother-in-law.

[00:15:50] He's just all around not good.

[00:15:52] But I think this witness really proves that he does have this manipulative power over people

[00:15:57] because even after all of this, after three trials and her testifying,

[00:16:03] she's still kind of semi-loyal to him.

[00:16:05] But I do think overall, once they found her, she was a pretty good witness.

[00:16:09] Next witness up is Jeffrey LaCase, who is the now ex-boyfriend of Wendy Adelson.

[00:16:17] But he was dating her at the time of the murder.

[00:16:21] And this guy, I really think, deserves all the accolades and awards

[00:16:25] because literally as law enforcement is interviewing him initially,

[00:16:29] he is piecing together in his head what happened.

[00:16:33] It just dawns on him all of a sudden that not only was it obviously the Adelson's

[00:16:41] that put this all together, but that he believed that they were trying to frame him

[00:16:50] in some way, shape or form for being involved in it,

[00:16:53] which it was so interesting to kind of watch his police interview

[00:16:56] and watch him kind of come to that realization that, oh my God,

[00:17:00] not only are they involved, but Wendy was literally keeping me around

[00:17:04] in order to try to frame me for this.

[00:17:07] So right after the homicide of Dan Markell, he told law enforcement

[00:17:13] that they definitely needed to be looking at Charlie,

[00:17:16] but they also needed to look at Wendy as well.

[00:17:19] So Wendy and Jeff had begun seeing each other in August of 2013.

[00:17:24] At first, they were not exclusive, but they became serious

[00:17:28] with their relationship in early 2014.

[00:17:31] He testified that Wendy was devastated by the denial of her motion

[00:17:35] to relocate out of Tallahassee and said that she felt stuck in Tallahassee.

[00:17:40] And she was also upset about the motion that was filed

[00:17:43] to limit contact between her mother, Donald Adelson, and her children.

[00:17:48] And she thought that this was a pretty serious motion.

[00:17:53] And he said that the topic of the divorce was very, very high

[00:17:58] on the list of conversations that Wendy would have.

[00:18:01] She talked about it all the time.

[00:18:03] Before Dan's murder, he and Wendy had had dinner with Katie and Charlie

[00:18:08] in Miami, and Katie very much talked about Siegfriedo Garcia's

[00:18:13] different criminal history.

[00:18:15] And in the midst of that, Charlie bragged about having connections

[00:18:19] on, quote, both sides of the track, end quote.

[00:18:23] So Jeff had invited Wendy along on a trip to visit Jeff's family

[00:18:28] that was scheduled for July 11th through the 17th of 2014.

[00:18:33] And she ended up bailing out and she said that she was worried

[00:18:36] that they would get delayed and they wouldn't get back in time

[00:18:39] for the boys to get the boys from school on July 18th.

[00:18:43] And he thought that this was weird because they had planned

[00:18:45] on arriving home a whole day earlier, so there shouldn't have been any problem.

[00:18:50] And Jeff went on to say that in the months leading up to Dan's murder,

[00:18:54] Wendy had become extremely erratic

[00:18:57] and brought him along on this crazy roller coaster ride.

[00:19:01] She would distance herself from him and then all of a sudden she would be back

[00:19:05] and she would be love bombing him and saying, like,

[00:19:09] I want you to move in with me.

[00:19:10] I want the kids to call you daddy.

[00:19:13] And he just kind of started feeling like there was something going on

[00:19:16] and there was something off.

[00:19:19] And there was some inconsistencies in where Wendy was saying

[00:19:21] she was versus where she really was.

[00:19:24] And he thought that she might have potentially been cheating on him,

[00:19:28] which ended up later being confirmed by investigators.

[00:19:32] And he just felt like he was being strung along, but he didn't know why.

[00:19:36] He couldn't figure out why he was being strung along,

[00:19:38] but he just had this awful feeling that he was being strung along.

[00:19:42] And it ends up kind of coming out in all of this

[00:19:46] when he is talking to investigators, why she was stringing him along,

[00:19:50] because she was going to try to frame him for murder,

[00:19:52] which is insane, insane how easily someone can manipulate someone else like that.

[00:19:58] So this broken TV that is like the middle of this whole case,

[00:20:05] Wendy had insisted that Jeff and her and the kids watch a movie on this broken TV,

[00:20:12] even though there was other TVs available in the home that weren't broken.

[00:20:16] And he said that the TV damage was pretty significant.

[00:20:22] It looked like it had been caused by pretty hard impact.

[00:20:26] And the screen was cracked, so it was super highly pixelated.

[00:20:31] And he doesn't think that the damage that was done to the TV was done by kids,

[00:20:36] which is what Wendy originally said, that the kids broke it.

[00:20:38] And he doesn't personally believe that that was the case.

[00:20:42] Jeff then went on to testify about the quote unquote hitman joke that was told.

[00:20:49] And he also said, I don't really feel like it was a joke.

[00:20:52] I feel like it was far more than that.

[00:20:55] And he said five days before the murder, Wendy asked to confide something in him.

[00:21:01] And he said that Wendy had told him that Charlie had seriously looked into,

[00:21:07] quote, all possible options to take care of the Danny Markel problem,

[00:21:13] which included hiring a hitman.

[00:21:16] However, this was going to cost between $15,000 and

[00:21:21] $50,000 and this was to be done the previous summer.

[00:21:25] And he said that when she told him this, it made his stomach flip.

[00:21:31] And he said that when Wendy told him this, she was being dead serious.

[00:21:35] She wasn't joking around.

[00:21:38] He had shared it with another friend of his and then right after the murder,

[00:21:42] of course, shared it with law enforcement.

[00:21:44] And he said that this felt like something completely different.

[00:21:49] After the murder, Wendy had shared with Jeff that her and

[00:21:52] Charlie had gone out to what she called a celebration dinner.

[00:21:57] And here's kind of where Jeff starts to kind of put the pieces of

[00:22:00] the puzzle together that he thought that Wendy was going to try to frame him

[00:22:05] for the murder of Jeff.

[00:22:07] So she, Wendy, was the only person who knew that Jeff was going to be

[00:22:12] leaving town the morning of both of the hitman attempts.

[00:22:17] The first one was in June and, of course,

[00:22:19] the one that actually ended up happening, which was in July.

[00:22:22] He then went on to testify that a few days prior to the murder,

[00:22:25] they went on a final date,

[00:22:28] which was a yoga class that was super awkward and weird.

[00:22:32] And he just kind of got the feeling that Wendy was kind of over it and

[00:22:35] breaking things off and he just kind of was going to turn around,

[00:22:38] walk the other way, and just kind of move on with his life.

[00:22:41] But Wendy ended up calling him after and she was like deeply, deeply,

[00:22:46] deeply interested in his Friday, July 18th travel plans.

[00:22:51] And asked if he was still going to be leaving for Tennessee on Friday at 11am.

[00:22:57] She was also just asking him other questions about like his plans and

[00:23:01] his routine and what was going to happen.

[00:23:03] And he thought this was extremely odd considering they pretty much had just

[00:23:07] broken things off.

[00:23:09] Now this is the exact morning of the hit.

[00:23:11] And she knew that Jeff was going to be traveling near Dan Markell's residence,

[00:23:17] that he was going to be in a four-door metallic sedan,

[00:23:21] which is very, very similar to the car that was rented by Siegfriedo and

[00:23:27] Luis Rivera.

[00:23:28] But Jeff must have had some type of intuition of sorts because he decided to

[00:23:32] leave a day earlier for his trip and he didn't tell anyone.

[00:23:35] He didn't tell Wendy.

[00:23:37] He just went on about his business and left.

[00:23:40] And the state attorney, Georgia Kaplaman, asked him what might have happened if you

[00:23:45] had kept your original travel plans.

[00:23:48] And he said that his life might have gotten very complicated,

[00:23:51] i.e., he would have been framed for the murder of Dan Markell,

[00:23:55] which is so wild when you think about it.

[00:23:58] Daniel Rashbaum is now up on cross exam and he basically said that

[00:24:03] all of this is being said because Jeff is bitter about the breakup with Wendy.

[00:24:09] And Daniel Rashbaum, of course, asked him why he didn't initially go to

[00:24:13] authorities when there was talk about hitmen being hired.

[00:24:17] And of course, hindsight's 20-20,

[00:24:19] you never really expect that someone is actually going to do that.

[00:24:23] So of course, when everything went down,

[00:24:26] that was his first gut instinct was of course to go to law enforcement.

[00:24:29] But before that, he says no, I didn't go to law enforcement.

[00:24:32] And he does admit that in hindsight, he should have gone to law enforcement.

[00:24:37] He knows that he shouldn't have sat on that information, but he didn't know,

[00:24:42] of course, that there was an active murder plot going on to kill Dan Markell or

[00:24:45] he absolutely would have gone.

[00:24:48] Next witness up is a guy named Ryan Fitzpatrick and

[00:24:50] he is one of Charlie's former friends.

[00:24:54] And they had known each other for about 15 years.

[00:24:56] They met through mutual friends and Ryan knew Charlie's parents and

[00:25:02] his sister well and he had also met the Markell's

[00:25:06] grandsons as well, so Dan Markell's two boys.

[00:25:10] And Ryan said that nobody in the Adelson family liked Dan Markell and

[00:25:15] that Charlie had a lot of girlfriends.

[00:25:17] He had previously met Katie in passing before.

[00:25:21] And they asked him kind of how was Charlie's demeanor after Katie was

[00:25:25] arrested?

[00:25:26] And he said that Charlie was agitated and upset after Katie had been arrested.

[00:25:32] Ryan and Charlie had a falling out in 2018 and

[00:25:36] Ryan said I'm not a fan of him, but I'm not here to bring him down.

[00:25:41] I really don't even want to be here at all.

[00:25:43] In Katie's trial in 2022, Ryan said that Charlie was very paranoid.

[00:25:48] He had cameras around his home.

[00:25:50] He was very suspicious of everybody.

[00:25:53] And he was a regular user of marijuana and he also abused steroids.

[00:26:00] Their group of friends had noticed that Charlie's behavior had started to change.

[00:26:03] He became more erratic and things were just, he was just acting very different.

[00:26:08] And they never as a group confronted Charlie about Dan's murder.

[00:26:14] But Charlie did tell his group of friends that he was innocent and

[00:26:18] that the whole case against Katie and all was nonsense.

[00:26:21] And in one instance even told Ryan you can get away with murder,

[00:26:27] Which is so freaking comical to me considering the whole reason that

[00:26:32] everything happened is because Charlie and the Adelsons could not ever for

[00:26:36] one second stop talking about the murder of Dan Markell.

[00:26:41] Daniel Rashbaum was then up on cross examination and of course he wants to

[00:26:45] poke holes in Ryan Fitzpatrick as a witness and

[00:26:50] talked about how Ryan had allegedly embezzled money

[00:26:55] from the business that he and Charlie had shared.

[00:26:59] And there was some text messages that were back and

[00:27:01] forth between him and Charlie so they talked about these.

[00:27:03] It was basically just him trying to discredit Ryan Fitzpatrick as a witness.

[00:27:08] And it's really hard to look bad when you're up against Charlie Adelson

[00:27:12] because he's always going to look worse because he's worse.

[00:27:17] So that was the end of that witness.

[00:27:20] Our last witness of the day, which again is a really good one,

[00:27:24] is none other than Luis Rivera.

[00:27:27] And he basically said that the whole reason that this happened was the lady

[00:27:33] wanted her kids back and said that they were hired by,

[00:27:37] quote unquote, the dentist, i.e. Charlie Adelson.

[00:27:41] He also said that being hired to do this job to kill Dan Markell was not

[00:27:46] in any way related to his gang affiliation.

[00:27:49] Georgia Kaplaman asked him if he had gotten any information about Dan

[00:27:54] Markell's schedule or address from a blog.

[00:27:57] And he replied that the blog was Wendy, very interesting.

[00:28:03] And he then said that Katie knew that the murder had been done before

[00:28:09] Siegfriedo Garcia called her.

[00:28:11] Georgia Kaplaman asked him and said the defense in this trial is saying

[00:28:16] that you and Siegfriedo Garcia did this on your own.

[00:28:20] And he basically said no and laughed and said, good one.

[00:28:24] Like, there's no way that we did this on our own.

[00:28:27] We were put up to this.

[00:28:29] He also talked about how he wanted to rob Wendy.

[00:28:32] But Siegfriedo Garcia said that they had to do the hired hit

[00:28:36] before they did anything else, because for whatever reason,

[00:28:39] I think that they thought that Wendy was the one

[00:28:41] that was going to be paying them when after all, it was Charlie Adelson.

[00:28:45] Aka the dentist.

[00:28:47] So Georgia Kaplaman had asked if you had known that it was the dentist

[00:28:50] that had the money, would you have just been just as likely to rob the dentist?

[00:28:54] And Luis Rivera said absolutely.

[00:28:57] And that is the end of day two testimony.

[00:29:01] Day three will begin the cross examination and redirect of Luis Rivera.

[00:29:49] The jury in the Chad Dable trial just started deliberations

[00:29:53] and rest assured that if we have a verdict before I get on the plane

[00:29:57] to go to Crime Con, that I will be bringing you all of the things.

[00:30:03] And also rest assured that as soon as I get to Crime Con,

[00:30:06] if there's a verdict, I will be bringing you all of the things

[00:30:08] because I am bringing my portable mic device.

[00:30:13] So if there is anything breaking, I can podcast about it because it's what I do.

[00:30:19] But it is insane watching the closings today.

[00:30:24] Lindsay Blake is such a rock star.

[00:30:26] She laid everything out in such a picture perfect way.

[00:30:31] I don't see how you could find him not guilty.

[00:30:34] Now, I know there's no such thing as a slam dunk,

[00:30:37] but I think we're getting pretty dang close to this being a slam dunk.

[00:30:41] And the wildest part for me was watching the defense closings with John Pryor,

[00:30:46] where basically he laid out that Chad Dable is just another victim

[00:30:51] of Lori Vallow and Alex Cox.

[00:30:53] And they conspired against him and they used him

[00:30:57] and he was going to be their next victim.

[00:30:59] The way that that completely and utterly blew my mind.

[00:31:04] I have no words, but I will continue to keep you guys updated on all of that

[00:31:09] as the time goes on.

[00:31:12] Last thing I want to talk about real quickly is Corey Richens.

[00:31:15] Lawyers have decided that they want to withdraw from her case

[00:31:20] and they filed paperwork on May 17th and they said that there is

[00:31:24] an irreconcilable and a non waivable situation.

[00:31:28] And it's basically them saying that they want to withdraw from her defense.

[00:31:34] So it's going to be really interesting to see what comes out with this.

[00:31:37] Corey is the mom

[00:31:41] who is accused of poisoning her husband with fentanyl

[00:31:44] and then ended up writing a book on grief that she used

[00:31:49] to kind of help her children through the death of their father

[00:31:53] and was on TV promoting this book and acting like a grieving widow,

[00:31:56] when in turn she allegedly is the one that killed him with fentanyl.

[00:32:01] So it's going to be interesting to see what happens with the trial

[00:32:05] and with everything going on now with her attorneys wanting to withdraw.

[00:32:08] I will continue to keep you guys updated.
