Let's talk right now in true crime, and then together we are going to work on warming up some cold cases. Let's go. Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Primetime Crime. It's Kylie. I am recording this super last minute, like an hour before I'm set to drop the episode, because I was in a at a course all weekend for my full time job at the hospital, working on like neurological interventions for stroke patients, so interesting. But I couldn't do any recording at the hotel because there's this loud fan that constantly was running and I couldn't get it to turn off when I wanted to record. So here we are, last minute, doing the thing. I'm only going to talk about a couple things because I'm starving and you don't want me angry on here recording right now in true crime. So first thing is Elec Murda has appealed the denial for him to have a new trial. He's appealed that decision, so that's going to of course have to go through the necessary channels until we hear back on that, but of course I don't expect for him to get a new trial. However, crazier things have happened, so we shall see Chad dabil trial updates. The prosecution and defense did their openings and they started their first witness, which is Detective Hermercio. He is the one that was overseeing a lot of when they found the children's bodies on Chad's property and the examining of evidence and all of that. He is a really really solid witness and he U can tell has been personally impacted by this. How could you not be finding two children and then having to try to figure out like what happened and what was going on and who was who? Like the remains were obviously, especially Tylie's, were not very intact. So the things that him and his team had to witness and see, I can't even imagine that ever going away. It's something that's going to stay with you. And he's a really powerful witness. So kind of watching how the defense is going to approach him is going to be really really interesting because Chad's lawyer is the king of objection and kind of the way that I think he's going to be approaching some of the witnesses. I don't think the jury is going to love that, so I don't think that's really going to play in their favor. And again him objecting like forty five thousand times, them going to sidebar forty five thousand times, I don't think it's going to go over very well with the jury. And this is death penalty. Potentially a death penalty case like this could end up with Chad getting the death penalty, which is a big deal, especially in Idaho. This is a big deal. So, as I said, always keep up with the case updates through Pretty Lies and Alibis podcast. She is doing the best job at doing like summaries of the day and just kind of keeping everything up to date because I as much as I want to sit and watch the trial, I just do not have the time. So listening to her episodes it gives me a very clear but brief synopsis of what went on. So I still feel like I'm kind of in the loop, even though I'm not like in the loop, you know. Okay, last thing I want to talk about now, this case has been kind of like an ongoing thing, but I have not super kept on on it. I'm not gonna lie, but they have made an arrest. In the case of two missing moms from Kansas, they made four arrests and this is in connection with the disappearance of a gal named Veronica Butler who is twenty seven and Jillian Kelly, who is thirty nine. They went missing on mark. They were on their way to Eva, Oklahoma to pick up Veronica's kids from their paternal grandmother's home, and they have not been seen or heard from since. They did find their car on Highway fifty nine in Oklahoma, and they said that there was blood around the car, so they thought that the women were of course harmed in some way, shape or form. Veronica had filed for full custody of her children ten days before she ended up going missing. So they arrested four people and they were charged with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree. So this is a lot. So here's who was arrested. They arrested tad Bert Colem who's forty three, Tiffany Michelle Adams fifty four, Cole Earl Tombly fifty and Cora who was forty four. So Tiffany and Tad are dating, and then that Tomblies are married, a married couple, I assume, and they're friends with Tiffany Adams. This is very convoluted and if you want to know, like the smoking gun, like what connects them to these two people who were kidnapped and allegedly killed. Tiffany Adams is the grandmother of the two children, Veronica's two children, so it always comes down to child custody and these custody disputes. Were these idiots, complete and total idiots, think that killing a parent is going to award them custody of these children. I don't understand how people can be so dumb to think that they're not going to get caught. I mean, take a note from the Atlesins. How did that work out for them? Donna's in jail awaiting trial. Charlie has been sentenced to life in prison. Wendy is somehow surviving day by day without being arrested. But I believe it's gonna happen soon. It's insane to me that these people think that they're gonna get away with it, and they're just magically going to be like, Okay, your mom is no longer here. We're gonna award you custody now, grandma, and all of your problems are gonna be over. And you just don't rope yourself into it. You involve three other people, three other idiots. If someone ever came up to me and said, hey, I'm having an issue like with this custody dispute with so and so, and I want to murder them, you bet your butt. I'm going straight to the police department and I'm gonna wear a wire and catch them in the act of trying to set up this murder for hire or this murder, whatever it may be. I'm that girl. I'm the person that is going to rat you out in a heartbeat. It's just so wild to me that you can get other people, three other people, grown adults like your grandmother, to go along with something like this. I can't wait for more to come out about it. But now you have taken away two women from their children, and you are now your self arrested because you don't think clearly. And that's really sad to me that it comes to this in these child custody disputes like it's not worth it. It's really not worth it. So I know that was short and sweet, guys, but we are going to go ahead and get started with today's episode because I need to go sleep. Enjoy the episode. Guys. We are going to be covering the murder for hire and killing of law professor and father of two Dan Markel in twenty sixteen. The story is very complex, very convoluted. There are a lot of moving pieces, but we are going to break it all down and talk about some of the amazing police work that went in to still currently getting justice for Dan Markell. This case is one that spans over many, many years, from twenty sixteen to present day twenty twenty four. There are still new developments happening in this case and we are going to unpack it all together. I hope to see you guys there Okay, guys, today we are jumping in to a triple unsolved case to be talking about the disappearance of the Springfield Three, which includes a girl named Suzanne, we'll call her Susie Streeter, another young girl, Stacy McCall, and then Susie's mother, Cheryl Levitt. So this happened in Springfield, Missouri. It is a really interesting story, a presumed abduction of these three women, and this happened June seventh of nineteen ninety two. So let's start talking about each of the presumed victims. Cheryl Levitt, who was the mother. She was forty seven years old at the time of her disappearance. She worked as a cosmetologist at a local salon, and she was a single mom, and her and Susie, her daughter, were very very close. They lived in a house together that was located at one seven to one seven East Delmar Street in Springfield, Missouri. Cheryl's daughter, Susie was nineteen years old and literally the day before, had just graduated from high school along with Stacy McCall, she was eighteen, and they graduated from Kickapoo High School June sixth of nineteen ninety two. So leading up to the day that they disappeared, Susie and Stacy had kind of made the rounds to a few different graduation parties. They were last seen around two am the morning of June seventh, so at one point during the night they also went to Battlefield, Missouri, which isn't too far from Springfield, where the girls were from and lived. So initially Stacey and Susie were planning on spending the night at their friend Janelle Kirby's home, but they ultimately decided that they were going to go ahead and just go back to Susie's home because they thought that Janelle's home home was going to be too crowded, so they went back to Susie's home also where Cheryl lived her mother, and decided that they were just going to sleep there. And they do know that the girls arrived back at the house because all of their stuff was there. Their clothes, their jewelry, their purses, and their cars were all present at the house. The next day, Cheryl was the last heard from approximate at eleven fifteen PM on June sixth, when she had talked to a friend about painting a piece of furniture. So that is the last known contact from Cheryl was that same evening. So around nine am the next morning, the girls had made plans to meet up with Janelle Kirby and some other people. They were going to go to a water park and they were all going to meet at Janelle's home to leave and go to this water park. So so Stacy and Susie don't go up that morning, so Janelle goes ahead and goes over to the home where the girls were supposed to be. She gets to the house, the front door is unlocked, so she goes ahead and goes in. Doesn't see any of her two friends or Cheryl nowhere to be found, but the cars were all parked outside in the driveway, alluding to them being there. Of course. She also brought her boyfriend with her, and they noticed that the porch light shade had been shattered. Although the light bulb was still intact, the glass dome that goes over it was shattered, so her boyfriend went ahead and swept up the glass off of the porch, and once they're inside, they see that the family dog, who is named Cinnamon and is a Yorkshire Terrier, was very agitated and just kind of like seemed like something was awry. You know how dogs have like this sense of when something's wrong. That's how Cinnamon was act. And also, while Janelle and her boyfriend were inside, the phone rang. She answered the phone and said it was a strange and disturbing call. It was an unidentified male who was making sexual innuendos. She of course hung up the phone immediately, and the person called back again, same kind of sexual innu windows and she hung up the phone again. So in hindsight, obviously this seems kind of like a weird situation. The girls are nowhere to be found, their cars are all in the driveway, we have shattered glass, we have an agitated dog, we have two back to back seemingly prank phone calls. But hindsight is twenty twenty looking at that, especially back in those days, you don't think something bad has happened to your friends. So in the midst of all this, Stacy's mom, Janis, has been trying to get in touch with her, and she cannot get in touch with her daughter, so she also visits the home to try to figure out what's going on. Again, she is able to see that all three of the women's purses were sitting on the floor in the living room, and she also could see that her daughter's clothes were folded neatly from the night before, alluding that at one point in time Stacy was at that house. Cheryl and Susie's cigarettes were also left inside of the house, so immediately Janie knows something is going on and decides to call the police and say that they're missing. After Janice places the call and calls police to report the missing, of course law enforcement is on the way. In the midst of that, Janice listens to what is called a strange message on the answering machine for the phone that's in Cheryl and Susie's home, But the message was erased, so we don't really know the contents of this message. And once police find out about this message, they definitely think that it might have contained a clue. But going back, they don't really think that the two pran calls that Janelle received were of any connection to this case. So by the time Janice contacts Beliee, sixteen hours had already gone by since the women were last officially seen, and there were other family members and neighbors who also had been worried, and they also visited the home and police would estimate that about ten to twenty people visited this home in the midst of them being reported missing, so we have major crime scene, potential crime scene, can tam nation. They also said innocently Janelle's boyfriend sweeping up the glass from the dome light that had been broken. That could also have a been potential evidence as well. When police first arrived at the scene, there was no signs of a struggle, except of course for the porch light that had been shattered. And they also said that Cheryl's bed had been slept in, so it looked like she did sleep that night. And whatever happened happened in the early morning hours of the seventh and everything was left behind. All of their purses, their valuables, money, cars, their keys, their cigarettes, and the dog. They were all left there in the home. I swear if that dog could talk, it could tell us some stories. So, like I said, there wasn't really a sign any signs of struggle inside of the home, but all of their valuables were there, their purses were there, like I said, and Cheryl's purse had about nine hundred dollars inside of it, which kind of takes out that robbery was a motive because that was left behind. And also in Susie's room, they noticed that on her blinds that a couple of the slats had kind of been pulled out of place a little bit like maybe somebody was looking out the window at some point in time and the slots kind of got stuck. In the initial investigation, law enforcement had asked for Janice, who is Stacy's mom, to supply them with Stacy's dental records. I think initially law enforcement was thinking, like, this can't be good. It's probably gonna end in us finding three bodies, and we need to kind of prepare ourselves for that. And again, they don't really have a lot to go off of, but they were presuming that this was a planned, targeted abduction and probably try BA homicide. I am now going to play a clip from local news at that time in regards to the three missing women, police are working extended shifts around the clock trying to find Cheryl Levitt, her daughters, Suzanne Streeter, and Suzanne's best and Stacy McCall. Still asking for individuals that may have had contact with either the McCall girl, Miss Streeter, or missus Levin to make contact with our department so we can narrow down the time frames that we're working with as to physically when was the last time they were seen and known to be safe. Also, everyone that knew Susie and Stacy said it was very out of character for them just to leave without letting someone know where they were going. They were very responsible, despite being younger, despite having just graduated high school. They were both very responsible girls and they wouldn't just leave without telling someone where they went. Where she's going to be, She's never missed work. She's a very conscient and she's a young one. We're questioning everybody at this time, friends, relatives, anyone that has information, anyone that may have seen them last. The neighbors. We done neighborhood canvas. We're just checking every lead weekend at this time. The last time anyone saw Susan Streeter or Stacey McCall was over the weekend at this house in Battlefield. The girls had gathered here with some friends after graduating from Kickapool High School on Saturday. They left here early Sunday morning. They said they were going to the other girl's house and they were going to be spending the night there, and they called me in the morning so we could go to White Water, And they never called me in the morning, So I called them and I called them, and I called them called, and I got no answer. So I went over there and they weren't there. Jewelry and thanks were left in her purse, her makeup. Is there an eighteen year old girl that's very proud about the way she looks? Where's her makeup? And looks nice? And she's does it go out just wearing a T shirt or in her hands? There we heard from Janice Stacy's mom in regards to her not being the type just to run off, and also all of her items being left behind. We also heard from Janelle, the friend who they were supposed to meet that morning, and I can't even imagine how Janelle felt because the girls were all supposed to spend the night at Janelle's home and then they ended up changing their mind because Janelle had a lot of out of town family staying with her because it was graduation, So they decided that they were just going to go back to Susie's house instead. And it really makes you wonder what would have happened if they all had just stayed at Janelle's home, So the investigation pretty much has no leads right off the bat. There's not really a whole lot that they can go off of. About a month later, there is a tip that's called in from somebody that said that they saw Susie driving a silver green Dodge Panel van about six thirty a m. The morning of the disappearance. This sighting was at about a mile away from the home where the girls were, and the witness said that Susie appeared to be very distraught and she was being yelled at by a man who was in the back seat, and he was making comments like don't do anything stupid, don't try to do anything stupid. The van then drove off. Let me tell you, if you ever see a suspicious van, like, I'm going to follow the van every single time, Like keep my distance, but I'm definitely gonna follow the van because nothing good ever happens in creepy vans. It's like proven true crime fact that nothing good ever happens when there's a creepy van involved. So law enforcement was able to find a van that is very similar to this, and they ended up parking it in front of the police station. Hoping that people would call in tips if they had seen this van, if they knew somebody with a van like that. So they went ahead and parked this van there and just hoped that somebody would come forward with more information. There was a guy who came forward that said that he saw a blonde female driving a very similar van. It was in a grocery store parking lot, and I think there was also a man present, and he just said that it seemed a little suspicious. So he took down the license plate number. But fast forward to when he realizes that, oh my gosh, I might have seen something suspicious, the license plate number had already been thrown away. Let me tell you the number of times I put a license plate number into my phone in the notes section, just in case. It's astronomical how many times I do that on a daily basis, because I am that person that is always looking out for suspicious, weird thing and always taking down license plates. And this is a prime example of why it's really important to follow your gut and your instincts. Unfortunately, by the time the witness realized that he potentially could have been a witness, he had gotten rid of it. Another witness came forward. She was a waitress at a local restaurant. It was a place that Susie went pretty frequently, and said that that morning, between one and three am, that Susie, Cheryl, and Stacy were eating at the restaurant, and she said that they were speaking to three men and that they all left together, and that Susie seemed to be pretty intoxicated and that her mother, Cheryl, was trying to help her and calm her down. So they tried to ask other people at the restaurant, other people that work there, if they had seen them, and no one was really able to back it up. So we don't really know for that to be a confirmed actual them. So police, of course are looking for the girls. They are nowhere to be found. They're checking the woods, they're checking different bodies of water nearby Springfield, and they come up empty handed. So they start trying to go through some potential lists of suspects who they think could be involved in this, who has motive, and they just kind of start digging. So Cheryl had a son, and Cheryl's son and Susie's brother, and Cheryl and Susie had cut him out of their lives. Like only a month before the kidnapping, because he was an alcoholic and he had just been drinking excessively and they just decided they wanted to cut ties with him, so they looked at him. He did have an alibi, and it was of course confirmed by a neighbor of his that he was in fact where he said he was, and he also so passed a polygraph test and they eliminated him very very quickly as a suspect. The next suspect was a guy named Dustin Recla, and he was a former boyfriend of Susie. And the reason that they thought that he might have been involved in this is because he had done some previous break ins. He had broken into a mausoleum a few months before the three women vanished, and he had stolen thirty dollars worth of gold fillings from a few different skulls that were inside of this mausoleum. So Susie had given investigator some information in regards to the mausoleum break ins, and she was going to be testifying against Dustin in regards to this theft of these gold fillings, and Dustin and two of his friends were known to be in the area together in Springfield the night that the three women were taken taken, but they weren't really able to confirm that Dustin or the two people that he were with had any involvement. So our next suspect, I think is a pretty probable suspect, and that is a guy named Robert Craig Cox. He had been living in Springfield in nineteen ninety two and he actually worked at the same car repair place that Stacy's father worked, which I think is an interesting parallel. And his alibi was basically that he had gone with his girlfriend to church that morning, and the girlfriend said, yeah, he was with me. She later would recant her statement and said that Robert had asked her to basically say, hey, say that I was with you that morning, So that's obviously a little suspicious. Then Robert Cox also said that he was with his parents the night of the disappearance, and his parents of course said, of course he was here. So we have two different alibis confirmed by two different people. Obviously, Robert is not the most trustworthy human because he was eventually arrested for kidnapping and robbery, and he was a suspect in a murder in Florida, and he made comments about knowing that they were dead, and just like really eerie comments. I'm going to let you listen to them, because it's better to hear it from the horse's mouth than me telling it. I know that they're dead, I'll say that, I know that that's not I'll theory, you know when I know that. It just I just know that a person who did this had experience in what they were doing. I believe that the three minutes and women are very close to Springvale. He also refused to take a polygraph test and said he wasn't going to speak on the case anymore until after his mother passes away, which I think is really interesting and weird. This guy is obviously not like shooting off on all cylinders. He's definitely a little off, but I don't really know. Police think that he might not even know anything about it and he's just saying it for attention, But again, we really don't know. In December of nineteen ninety two, the story aired on America's Most Wanten and they did get somebody that called in with a tip, and they went to pass this person through to investigators and the call got disconnected. Somewhere along the line. But they did think that whoever this person was did have information that was vital to helping solve the case. So they kind of put out a plea for this person to come forward, but they never heard from this person again. Susie and Cheryl ended up being declared legally dead in nineteen ninety seven. And then in the two thousands, there was a local gal who was a crime reporter and she kind of started to breathe new light into the case and said that she had received many tips that the girls were buried beneath a parking garage at Cox North Hospital. Now, this allegedly came from several different people. I don't know how these people had any idea that this was a potential thing, but regardless, they enlisted the help of some people to kind of do some like sonar to see if they could find anything that was beneath the parking garage, and they found what they said were like three different things, like definitely notable things that looked like they potentially could have been graves. So we are going to hear now from this engineer that conducted this study, and he's going to kind of explain a little bit of what he is seeing when he as this like radar thing that he's doing, and it's really interesting. Nonetheless, and this was in two thousand and seven, so technology has improved a heck of a lot since then. So I really would be interested to kind of repeat this study and see what they see and like better yet, like let's destroy the parking garage and see what the heck's under there. But I have no chill, so let's hear from this engineer and then we're going to discuss, well, there's discontinuity in the subsoil, so basically it changes inside premeter, which indicates has been disturbed differently than the rest of its happen. And then inside that perimeter there are some wheat and strong reflections which are very close to the same. Now, like other words, it's it's different, but it's set in and long enough to the salts and stuff from the soil, so starting to migrat into whatever it is, and it's creating it to some strong, weak flippers in other words, But you're saying, is that that's the way it's starting to do the work. Whenever it is there, whenever they're starting this way, or the chemicals and this is all different right in here. It starts a two foot actually one point ninety three feet to two feet from the top of this surface down to the top of where this anomaly is showing up, and then through the bottom of the anomaly, we're back into the soil conditions again at three feet plenty. Your data telling me it's very similar to what we see when we're over the cole brings. The other anominator can show up sometimes similar to that tree roofs, But I don't see intrees anywhere close, and you're not picking up anywhere else but inside this perimeter area. Once I step outside the perimeter area, I see the slab of America came up with a slab and the subsoil and travel. But in this area it's different. Investigators don't believe that this is enough evidence to dig up the parking garage. I, however, disagree, because I think like this guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about. He's not just some random that they pulled in from the street, like this is kind of what he does, and like the way he's discussing it, it only looks like it's in this one particular area. It's not like the whole service of the garage, So there's definitely something suspicious going on there, and it would also lead me to think, like who was involved in building this garage. Apparently it was built about a year after the girls went missing, But I don't really think that that matters so much because anyone can transport a body from point A to point B, especially if they're trying to do it in a way where they're never going to be found. Because it's just amazing to me that these three women go missing in Springfield and they are never found. Their remains are never found, which would lead me to think that they are buried somewhere where you're not going to find them. I want to know who was involved in the building of this garage, That's what I want to know. I did find something in regards to a guy named Gerald Carnahan. He allegedly was a owner slash co owner of a construction company at the time, and that he was allegedly dating Cheryl at the time. Again, this is all hearsay rumors, but I feel like we have to kind of pursue all these different variables because this obviously was targeted. Whoever went to that house that night. I don't see that they just randomly showed up at a house that had three cars in the driveway and said, we're going to kidnap whoever's inside this house. It just doesn't make any sense that it would be random. It had to have been targeted, and Susie and Stacy were not even supposed to be there. So did the person show up and they showed up to target Cheryl and then they had this collateral damage of Stacy and Susie. We really don't know. So now this is where I'm going to tie this back to Trisha Wrightler's story, which I did last week actually a week ago. Today, we're going to talk about Larry Dwayne Hall because his name is kind of brought up in this story as well, because he and his twin brother were in the Springfield area around the time of the girls kidnapping, and he had this creepy, very distinctive van that had that was the same color, the same make and model, and it was allegedly seen outside of Cheryl's home that evening. So because Larry Dwayne Hall is a psychopathic weirdo and he's a serial killer slash rapist, and his brother also like dabbled in that kind of stuff as well as twin brother, so I feel like bringing him up in this is only like reasonable because, like I said, we have to kind of explore all avenues. There is, of course no evidence that he is involved, but police do believe that he murdered between thirty and forty people, and as I said on Trisha's episode, that is an astronomical amount of people, and especially if some of them are unsolved or not exactly tied to him, that is insane to me. So Larry Dwayne Hall could definitely be involved in this one, but we really don't have any facts or confirmation of that to be the actual truth. So that is the case of the Springfield three. Now I went down the rabbit hole of looking at the house because I feel like the house, the layout of the house is very important. So this house is located at one seven one seven East Delmar in Springfield, Missouri, and I'm going to post pictures from the crime scene the night of the alleged abduction or the day of the alleged abduction. You can see the porch light that has the globe that's missing because it was shattered. But I think a really interesting key piece of information is this home had multiple entrances. So typically you have your garage entrance, you have your front door entrance, and you have your back door entrance. But this home had another entrance, and this was a room that now they say that you could use it as a second living area. It's a bedroom, it's a large third bedroom, and it has French doors that go out to the back patio and there's also a back door as well. But in this room there's these back patio doors. So could this potentially be the area that the intruder slash intruders came in from kind of the back yard area on the side into this room, which was actually Susie's room. So I really don't know. I mean, could someone have been lurking out there or watching them and came in that door maybe like easier access. Maybe Susie had stepped out to smoke, because she was a smoker, she could have easily just stepped out there to have a cigarette. I don't know. It's very very interesting. And then of course the front light globe thing was broken, so they obviously at some point in time went that way as well. So I don't know. I think it's interesting. Investigators don't believe that any homicide or anything nefarious really happened inside of the home. It was more just like they were there, somebody showed up and they were abducted. No, like actual crime necessarily took place inside of the home, because there's no evidence. There's no really signs of a struggle. But things were weird, like their purses are all lined up, and I'll have a picture of the purses, So the purse is being lined up, that's kind of weird. And then of course the globe being broken weird, But no other like apparent signs of a major like they were fighting for their lives kind of thing. And then you also have to think about three women versus one person. If you're coming into my house and trying to abduct me, as a single human, I'm going to fight back. So that's even more so when there's three of them. It definitely makes me feel like there's more than one person that was involved in this aspect of it taking them from their home. But until this story crosses the right path, I don't think we're going to find out exactly what happened to them until that person realizes that they have the missing piece of the puzzle and hopefully comes forward. So that is the story of the Springfield three. That's a lot to unpack. I know, it's a lot. It's very convoluted and crazy how three women can just literally vanish into thin air and there's nothing ever found about them at all. It's just unsolved and I feel like which with each passing day, month, year, the chance of this case being solved gets slimmer and slimmer. So that is why doing these episodes is so important. Sharing these episodes is important, trying to get the information out there to the masses to hopefully reach someone that might have that missing piece of the puzzle. And it's forever going to be the reason that I do this podcast, just to try to bring light to these cases and awareness. Awareness is key. So check out my Instagram and Facebook pages.
